My new Remington 700 SPS Varmint .223 is borrowing a scope (Weaver V16) from one of my rimfire rifles at the moment. I see Nikon now has a Monarch 6X-24X 50mm with side parallax that seems like it would be right at home on the new 700. Anyone have any firsthand use of this particular scope? Where are these made now?

My other 700 is equipped with the older Leupold Vari-X III 6.5X-20X target dot. I like that scope quite a bit but even the used ones now cost more than what mine did new! I thought perhaps the new Nikon Monarch would give similar optical performance.

Also gave some thought to the Burris Signature Select 8X-32X 44mm. But it is not available with target dot but the extra power may be useful for target shooting. The Black Diamond version has a 50 mm objective.

I've had one on my Tikka m595 .22-250 for about a month now. Made in the Phillipines. I personally can't tell much as far as optical clarity between a Leupold and a Nikon and it's hard to justify spending that much more for something that intangible. The only thing that's kinda weird are the 1/8th MOA clicks, but you get used to it. Anything specific you want to know?

Really nice glass for the $$. So far I've gotten out to 580 yds @ 20x.

Woops - didn't realise this thread was ancient 'til I posted. You probably already made your decision by now.
