Has anyone tried this as a variable power scout scope? It seems to be marketed as a rifle scope rather than for a handgun.

Is the variable power option worth $60-70 over the Burris scout?

I want a scope for an ex-sniper 91/30 that shoots about 2-2.5 MOA with mosin irons and my (not great) eyesight, so this won't be an attempt to re-create Cooper's scout, just seems like an easier way to scope a full length mosin. I think I would be quite happy with the magnification of the Burris or Leupold scout scopes at the range I'm am likely to be shooting at, but I think the extra magnification might give me more options down the road. I'm just wondering whether or not the variable magnification over-complicates the extended eye relief, as this will be my first scoped rifle and I have very little basis for judging useful magnification. 1x per 100 yards?
