The latest cosmo cleaning thread has me thingking. I just got a small parts washer from my local farm supply store to clean some parts on my wifes honda 100 I am fixing up for her. I also plan to use the washer for the gun collection.

I have yet to fill it and the book says I can use anything from pure solvent, to Kero, to mineral spirits.

I would like somthing that is non-flamable and won't east my skin away if I splash some while cleaning but I also want a good cleaner that will clean up oil and gun goo but will allow me do rinse out say like the Kel-Tec, hit it with the air hose then lube and reassemble on a regular basis. Will mineral spirits fit the bill or should I look elswhere.

Equal parts Kerosene/Mineral Spirits/ATF Fluid. Makes a great solvent for a parts washer.

Non-flammable rules out mineral spirits and the kerosene mix.

Not if you add the ATF Fuild. When I 1st started using this mix, I wanted to see how easy it would burn. I dipped a corner of a paper towel into the mix and then tried to light it with a match. No way would it light. I burned three wooden matches to the nub trying to get it to light. Nothing...

Rustymaggot, read the Simple Green website . It will NOT damage aluminum as long as you rinse it off.

Mpro7 or Hoppe's Elite are good choices. Non-toxic, biodegradeable, non-flammable,and no odor. Either/or as they are they same thing under different labels.. Great stuff.
