Unlocked but in a secured by steel fire door and alarmed closet. These rifles, and shot guns posted on the proper forum, are USERS and are kept at hand for ranch duty. First the .22s when small critters less than 100 yards need killing. Accuracy is import here so we have a 6x sighted (with Lyman Target back ups) 1966 Remington 513T, and for those quick but accurate shots walking around or on a Kubota; an Anchutz Woodchucker with a 4x German made very clear 3/4 scope from the early 80s, also on the bottom a very slick and deadly 1969 Winchester 275 .22 Magnum with a Bushnell custom scope of the same vintage. This .22mag is for bigger Racoons and has got a few coyotes too.

For house keeping purposes as defined by Jeff Cooper we have a Winchester .22 short Model 62 Trombone that has been around me for 50 years. A Winchester 67a is very very quiet with Remington Sub sonics and near silent with CB caps with it's tight 27" barrel. The Remington tube fed bolt is a smooth bore and is my around the house gopher /rat killer par exellence.

For those rare ish bigger or farther stuff I have a Savage 342 .22hornet with a 60s Bushnell 3-9 scope that takes stuff to the longest 150 yard shot I have anymore on the ranch. The Argentine DMW 1909 was converted by the Argies to 30-06 and I can hold the ammo to 4" at 100 yards with the barley corn sights. Nothing is more stone releable than the fine 98 mauser IMHO and this one is suberb! With the 220 grain Corelokts it is loaded with it is dead on at 100 yards and I think will kill a yeti or bull easy enough-anytime.

Note these guns are not purdy, are well used , and not tatickewl, but aren't in the safe either. They are kept in a glass doored guncase old school style, but the room is kept locked.:)

Neat. These are tools. Well designed, well used, well cared for tools. They remind me of my grandfather, a very practical man with practical firearms. And he could shoot all of them, very very well.

Thanks for sharing.
