Gents,

I've lawfully carried concealed in multiple states outside my home state, and in the last ten years, I've never needed to produce my CHL for inspections.

Getting to my question:

Has anyone here produced a nonresident CHL to a requesting LEO and received grief, legal or otherwise for it? Specifically, I'm interested to know if LEOs are thoroughly educated on respective reciprocity agreements for their states, and whether they respect out of state CHLs / non resident CHLs as much as CHLs from their states.

Some states, such as PA (my prior home state) have already started moving against non-resident permits. They will honor a FL resident permit, but not a FL non resident permit (my permit). Keeping track of all the changes is becoming more and more burdensome. It's not hard to imagine that LEOs might have a difficult time keeping up with the changes as well.

I drive to North Carolina at least 6 times a year.
I also love New Orleans.
My interactions are limited to the states on those routes.

Ga and SC the LEO's tend to know the rules.;)
I have had to tell a SC LEO once to call his supervisor. That cleared everything up.:)
NC doesn't like people with CCW's at all. Even their own people. Charlotte cops are no fun. And you better know the list of restricted places.
Alabama has it down cold. They see Florida CCW's every day.:D
Mississippi it's a crap shoot if the LEO knows the rules. But so far a " call your supervisor: has done it.
Louisiana seems doesn't give a crap if you have a CCW at all. NEVER been asked for a CCW.

I used to be an LEO. I would never assume they knows much of anything about CCW reciprocity, let alone everything. There are just too many laws to keep track of. That said, in over 40 years of carrying, I've never been asked to produce a permit or been legally required to inform that I was carrying.

April 2004 struck up a conversation with a Texas Chief Deputy at the Arrowhead gun shop in Kerrville, Texas. There was a Chief Deputy Association meeting at Inn of the Hills and there were two dozen cops in the shop.

He heard me talking and asked where I was from (I do not sound Texan whatsoever). I told him Indiana. He asked about deer hunting and then what an Indiana license looked like (our pink card). I showed him and he thanked me.

Oh, funny thing was that I was wearing a baja shirt "concealing" my 1911 and back up gun on my belt. I could not have been printing more unless I took off my baja shirt (ok, wasn't that bad), but no one cared.

Some good info guys, thanks for sharing.

I've always figured a little professional courtesy can go a long way when it comes to "educating" an inquiring LEO on reciprocity CHL agreements.

I've not been asked to produce my CHL as of yet, but I do make sure I know the law thoroughly, so that if need be, I can cite it directly.
