Hi everybody,

New poster here but I have a question. I live in the North East USA not far from Canada where I've recently found out that you can buy spam cans full of old chinese 7.62x39 for pretty cheap. From what I understand, Chinese ammunition was banned by the Clinton administration somewhere around 1994. Does that mean I can't bring some back across the border from Canada? I'm not sure if theres a loophole or if they'd even check the ammo to see where its from.
Thanks

I tried google but I couldn't get any definitive answers. I'll try contacting Customs to see what they say. I'm just afraid they'll flat out say no even if there is a loophole.

I took a look. The form below is apparently the permit for a person to bring ammo, etc in. I didn't see any fees when perusing it.

Recall how much that Norinco ammo goes for approx? BTW, IIRC, if it's armor piercing, it can't come in.

Some Chinese factories were using a steel core in some old AK ammo that I believe BATF classified as armor piercing because some dolt created an AK "pistol". They then said since it's "pistol ammo", it was illegal to import. I think currently all Chinese ammo is not importable.

The ATF will not approve a form 6 for any ammunition manufactured in China. Anything you purchase in Canada would have to be declared at customs, or smuggled in. Seems like a big risk just for some crappy Chinese 7.62x39. That stuff never was very good, but now has mythical powers since it was banned.

Yep, but it was dirt cheap back in the day, as were AKs, and got many people into shooting on the cheap. No more. The steel core stuff, even though it isn't true "armor piercing" is a no no these days.
