Norinco AKS?

Local guy selling Norinco AKS.
He said it is an AK action with hunter furniture and an SKS barrel.
Thus, it is now a semi-auto hunting rifle.
I don't care to have the "looks" of the AK....I just want the function of an AK.
Are these remanufactured AK's good?
The original Norinco's have received good reviews from what I recall. Is that right?
Said he would sell it for $350. Comes with 5 rounder and 20 rounder, scope mount, and sling.

Never heard of that one before. It is probably just a varient of an SKS or an AK.

I wouldn't pay $350 for it at all. Now, I don't know what the collectibility factor is for this rifle being that it is a Norinco and they are no longer imported...


This is NOT like the MAK-90's which were basically AK-47's minus the independent pistol grip and evil features (but took high-caps no problem).


This is a lot like the Saiga rifles being sold today. Note that the trigger and trigger guard is pushed rearward to work with the sporter stock. Looks like an RPK reciever (1.6mm heavy receiver)..and 20" barrel (not 16" like most AK's). Most Norinco AK patterned rifles have chrome lined chamber and bore, but I'd ask about this one in particular. Some runs/models did not.


If you want a semi-auto high-capacity 7.62x39mm and don't mind it being in "sporterized mode"...it isn't bad. If you are looking to turn it into AK-configuration, this probably isn't a good buy. You said you just want AK function, but don't care about AK looks or configuration. This might be a good choice then.

This looks like a one-of-a-kind type thing--a custom job built on a standard Norinco:

"Remanufactured by Hunter I.D.E., McLean, Virginia." That's who put the rifle into this configuration, not Norinco, I suspect.

You'd certainly be the only person on your block with one...

Wow, never seen one of those before. It remind me of the Saiga. I would never pay $350 for one of those. It might have some collector value. There people out there that seem to think Chinese stuff is worth something because they don't import it anymore. I would rather have a real Saiga for $200. For $350, you can get a WSAR which is a real AK. For $100 you can get a Yugo SKS which is just as reliable if not more so than any AK-47 ever made.

I would say, go with an SKS or an AK, leave that Frankenfart to some Chinese collector that thinks he has something.

It's a Norinco hunter. It's moderately rare because the importation stopped a long time ago. I'd never heard about them being "remanufactured" here in the states. The stamp probably has more to do with the importer than post-manufacture gunsmithing in the States.

The reciever has a slope where the magwell is, more like a Galil, which made them popular finds for those looking to build Galil clones after import stopped from Israel.

$400 is not a bad price for a Nornico hunter in good shape, however, you can probably find a Saiga hunting Kalashnikov for a bit less.

He will sell it for $350. I don't care if it doesn't "look" like an AK-47. I just want the reliability of an AK action. Supposedly the changes make this rifle a little more accurate.
Can someone tell me if the action should function like an AK. Or might they have changed the action as well?
I would rather have an AK type weapon....even if tweaked...than a Saiga that doesn't take AK mags.

Would I be better off buying an un-used WASR for $350 (comes with one 30 round mag)? If so, why?

An AK for cheaper than $350? In my parts, they are wanting $450 and up. I have seen WASR's for less, however.
I'm still confused. I was thinking that is gun IS an AK? It just has a different stock and an SKS barrel. Am I wrong?

im not familiar with that weapon but if you look hard enough you can prob find an ak from 325-375 range or go the parts kit route

WASR's are going for that price or less.... But aren't Norinco's better?

Im still not quite following why the receiver has a sloped end. It does remind me distinctly of an RPK receiver which isnt bad because thats what VERP's use. As far as the action goes, it should be the same carrier and gas operation system. I dont know how one would "tweak" the AK to make it more accurate if it hasnt been made differntly to start with so i dont know how much truth there is in that. The only thing i can think of is that you can build one with tighter machine tolerances so theres less play = higher accuracy.

I think $350 is a great price. If you dont mind the "sporter" version go for it. Seldom do you see AK's for lower prices than $275. If you want to save yourself some money i would consider an SKS. You can always stick on a detachable 30 rd mag

I don't know if this might cheer you up, but I saw one at the show today selling for $600. So, I still think $350 is a good price.
