Hello, Is the feedramp on the Norinco 1911's set up for ball only? Today I had trouble feeding HP's in the first couple rounds in most of my mags,I bought a new Chip McCormick powermag but hav'nt tried it yet.I was thinking it was set up for ball only, being a true mil-spec 1911.Maybe I should try Corbon Powerball ammo? Or maybe try to have the feedramp/throat worked on?Any help or advice would be great,Thank you.

My Norinco 1911 came with a throated barrel and I havent had any problems shooting hollow point bullets. You problem may be in the overall length of your factory hollow point round. I am using 230grain Federal hydra shoks and 230 grain Remington golden sabers.

Nork Throat

Howdy Kill'n'Grill,(Ted Nugent would be proud)

The Norincos' ramps and throats generally feed about anything that I've put through'em...so the problem isn't there. (Although most that I've seen could stand
to have the throat's bottom edge moved forward about a 32nd inch...they don't seem to mind)

Most often, a top round fail to feed is magazine related. Not enough spring tension...Incorrect follower angle...late release point...but it can also be that the cartridge overall length is a player in the glitch. Even a too-high load rating on the recoil spring can affect top round feed....especially on a slidelocked reload
when using the stop to release the slide.

Best educated WAG...magazine tweakin' needed...but describe your failure to feed in detail. There may be a couple other things that are makin' a contribution to the problem. i.e. Does the round enter the chamber and stop short of battery...or does it stop on the feed ramp in a nose-dive?

Luck!

Ok,after futher inspection and several tries I've notice when I release the slide(bye grabbing the slide and letting go)the 2nd smaller notch on the slide will hang up on the slide stop.Which when I say the second smaller notch, it is the notch for lining up the slide to take out the slide stop or putting it back in.But the round does move forward about 1/8 of an in.and seems to stop when it makes contact with the feedramp. Now on the other hand,if I release the slide bye pushing the slide stop down, the round chambers it's self without any problems.Thank you Tuner!

Hmmm

If your slidestop is engaging the takedown notch, somethin' is exerting upward pressure on the stop when it shouldn't. You don't get the hangup when you thumb the stop down because you're holding it down.

Have you had any premature slidelocks...with ammo still in the magazine?

Look closely at the slidestop pin itself...Is it bent or not perpendicular with the
arm? If you have another pistol...try the slidestop from that one to see if the problem goes away.

Remove the slide and put the stop through the frame in the usual position. Slowly
insert a loaded magazine into the magwell and watch the stop to see if it moves...even a tiny bit. If it does...do it again and use a light to see if the side of the bullet nose touches the stop's lug. If there's no contact, empty the magazine and lock it back in...Look to see if the magazine itself is touching the bottom of the stop's lug. The shelf on the follower will push the lug up into lock position, so you may need to remove the spring and follower to see if the mag tube causes the stop to move in order to see if there's any contact.

Welcome KillitnGrillit,

I just went through the exact same thing with my new Colt NRM 1911.
Never had an issue at the range, only when working the action by hand.

What I did was surgically clean the pistol and apply a healthy dose of
Tetra grease and problem solved. Might want to start there and see what
happens...besides it is fun and cheap. :)

Yes,the slide stop appears to be just slightly bent, the inside of the slidestop has some very ruff tool marks, when I insert a mag (as per your instuctions)it does just barely move the slidestop just a hair.

Bent?

Ahhhh...In law enforcement circles, that's known as a CLUE!
Sounds like you may need another stop. Lay the flat part on a hard, flat surface and eyeball the pin to see if it's perpendicular to the arm. Use a wall corner as a reference to rough check it for perpendicularity. You may be able to see it without a reference. I can...but I'm lucky in that I've got an eye for symmetry. You can also use a toolmaker's square if you've got one.

Tip: If you've been in the habit of lettin' the slide slam to battery at full speed
with the gun empty...that'll bend the slidestop pin and damage the lower lug feet.
