I'm still getting the hang of the speed loader. It seems to take a lot of playing around with to make the rounds seat before I turn the handle. What's more, there always seems to be one round that hangs up on the grip (when getting rid of the spent shells). <sigh> ... I know... I know... practice, practice practice!

Actually, there is hope. You have the uber-cheap speed loader from HKS. Safariland makes ones that are faster; loading by a pressure released spring action. It holds the shells until you push them into the cylinder, and then they drop (free) into the chambers, at which time you dump the speed loader, close the cylinder and return the gun to firing position as time allows. I've seen these in operation and they're not_quite as fast as moonclips, but they're close. I have a couple for the 629...

Now for the grips. One more nice thing about revolvers, you can change the grips out entirely. Our good friend John who bought my 669 Taurus has a Pachmyr Decelerator on it; much thinner than the Hogue. There are lots of options out there, just be sure you're not having a problem with that one round hanging up due to operator error. I had the same issue when I got my first wheel gun.... And remember that rod is called an "ejector" rod, not a "gentle pursuader" rod ;)

It seems as if I have to hold the gun upside down as I push that rod thingie or that one round hangs up on the grip.

Being able to change out the grips got me to thinking :what: (a dangerous thing I know) ... the wood grips that came with it seem simple enough. I would think one would be able to make one's own easily enough?

Ah, that would be cool. I am no genius when it comes to crafts but I think someone with a little shop know-how could probably make a decent set. Lots of folks report making their own holsters too. I would think the pride of ownership would increase by doing this kind of stuff.

I did manage to trip 3 or 4 trick or treaters by completely enveloping the neighborhood in faux fog. :evil: Also, my Jack-o-lantern was charred and crispy by 2100...

Notes for next year: cyalume sticks don't work in extreme cold ( like ice, used to chill the faux fog to make it settle to the ground ).

Less expensive source of fire; probably lamp oil.
TOWMBO suggested a pumpkin guillotine... I think that idea has promise...

When I lived in the Midwest, I went to gun shows all the time. Then there was a drought while I lived in Seattle.

Now I MUST go, Dulles or no!

Dulles is huge, with a ton of tables and a lot of space. It takes a good deal of time just to walk through without stopping anywhere. But you get the feeling there area lot of non Virginians there (not as in NY Cit gun running gang bangers) but rather not local sellers and folks from Maryland and NoVA. Its big draw for me is all the old cowboy guns and other antiques they put up front. I've actually gotten a couple of good deals there (purchased a gun both times I attended) but in one case it was just luck, the other I had negotiated most of the deal prior to the show and met the dealer there, at his table...

Whether you go to the Dulles Show or not, we'd love to have you join us at one of our weekly shoots at the NRA (Fridays @ ~6pm).
 
Well guys,

I couldn't wait to get out to the range on Friday so I packed up my gear and went to Black Lung Arsenal to get some range time with the PT111 Millenium Pro. If you recall, I traded away my 24/7 for it straight-up. Man, I really like this little pistol! With the extended grip from the magazine, I can get a full-grip on it. Ergonomically, its way better than the P11 I bought a couple weeks ago so the P11 is on the way out (I have a potential trade in the works). The P11 was 100% reliable in the 100 rounds I've put through it (Winchester FMJs and Remington JHPs) but I think its a little crude compared to the MP, which has a way better trigger.

Anyhow, I've been dry-firing the MP a bit this week and this got me wanting to head to the range. Recall, I've been having trouble shooting 9mm's but today was actually pretty good! I started about about 3 yards, moved out to 7 yards and was able to get some respectable accuracy (for me, at least) out of this lil' sucker. So far, this ones a keeper and a candidate to be an EDC.

As for the 24/7, I am going to give it another shot when Taurus rolls out the SA version, which will have a few improvements over the current generation. While I used to be skeptical of Taurus pistol quality, I have yet to have 1 failure between the 24/7 and MP. Well-regulated also confirmed that his 24/7 never failed as well. Being that reliability is vital in a carry piece, it looks like Taurus is doing ok. However, I do know that Smurf has had issues with a MP PT145 so its not a "clean sweep". Oh well, enough rambling. :)
 
Guys - as most can see this thread has in a sense long since ceased to be ''on topic'' shall we say!!! Certainly not re it's starting and prime purpose.

More it has become a general chat sub-forum and because it keeps surfacing it is actually over-riding more recent threads dealing with much more current events. Those are therefore getting less attention than they might deserve.

No harm no foul but - really think it is time to close this one, as there have been some requests to do just that - in order to help other threads not get ''buried''.

Hey - any specifics being discussed - do please find an appropriate forum and go post to start a new thread.

Had not realized just how long this had gone on! Best to all. :)
