My father is left handed. He's always had to shoot right handed guns with the empty casing flying across his field of sight, etc. Does any manufacturer make a left handed. semi-auto pistol? It doesn't have to be brand new, although that would be wonderful. He's shot all his life and I'd like for him to have at least one pistol that actually was made for left handed shooters.

Thanks,
Ron

Randall made a 1911 model that ejected to the port side.

The Walther P-38 tends to throw the empties up and a little to the right, but mostly up. Most of the SIG Classic models- P220, 225, 226, 229 tend to toss empties in a more upward direction as well, but the controls are geared towards a righty as the decocker is where you'd expect a safety on a 1911.

Regards,
Rabbit.

I'm left handed so i know all about living in a right handed world. I never could master the scissors. Anyways I just bought an HK P2000. Very left handed friendly. Ambi slide release and ambi magazine release. Casings still fly out the the right side but i've never had problem with that, in fact I don't even notice it.

p-38 like others said but once in a while it'll drill ya right in the forehead.LOL
not sure I wouldn't rather watch them fly by.

The only autoloader that I can think of that's truly ambidextrous, in every conceivable way, is the Hk P2000. Decocker on the back (near the hammer), mag release lever on both sides of the trigger guard, and even a functioning slide release on each side.

I've wanted one for about a year now for those esact reasons (and I usually shoot right-handed). :)

If Hk isn't your bag, a few others come close. The controls on an XD are almost there; mag release is ambi, but the slide release is only on the left side. The Smith & Wesson M&P has a slide release on the right side, but is nearly impossible to operate; the mag release can be reversed.

As a fellow southpaw, I haven't had any problems with my Taurus PT92. While it ejects to the right, it has never popped me on the head, dumped one down my neck, or laughed at me for being "different." It's ambi safety is easy to use, and if you prefer, the mag release can be switched to the other side. Personally, I like the release set for me to hit it with my left middle finger. Likewise, I don't have a problem hitting the slide release with my trigger finger. I am able to keep a firm grip on the pistol, just reach up and snap the slide release, and back in the action.

FYI, I've only had one left-hand gun in over 20 years of shooting - a LH Savage 110 in .270 Winchester. To be honest, I have been so conditioned to the action on the right, I could never get used to it. Great gun and a great value (I think about $350 at Wal-Mart) and it could SHOOT.

I don't have much of a problem with "right hand" guns. Don't make a big deal out of it...just shoot them!!! A few hours of practice, and I think he might find controls on the left side of the gun - with the exception of a safety - to not be a big problem

I'm also a lefty, and the only thing I've ever wished for on a semi-auto pistol is ambidextrous controls. My Sig 1911 is at the gunsmith right now having an ambidextrous safety installed. I would like to see an ambidextrous slide release and magazine button, but I've been using 1911s for so long the other way that I'm used to it. I can both dump the magazine AND press the slide release lever with my left index finger. However, I NEVER felt comfortable using the safety on my 1911 pistols because it just wasn't as easily accessible as the other controls. I just don't carry or store my pistols in a condition where a safety is necessary. Admittedly, this makes the pistols less easy to bring into play if necessary, but it is safer. Once I have the ambi-safety installed on my Sig, I'll take advantage of that feature.

I've never been bothered by the direction of travel of ejected cases.

H&K P7 pistols have totally ambidextrous controls, and many other pistols have at least some ambi controls or the user can adapt to the others. But the only one I know of that actually ejects cases to the left by design is the Walther P5.

The safety/decocker lever on the Beretta Px4 Storm is on both sides of the slide, and the mag release can be reversed. So it's more lefty-friendly than many guns.

It still ejects on the right side though, and as far as I'm aware the slide release can't be switched either.

This seems like it could a great nitch for the right machinist to fill. If he can start turning out blank left handed uppers and lowers, he could make a fortune.

As a fellow lefty I found the little surplus CZ82 to be very lefty friendly with all the functions except the slide release being ambi, and I use my left index finger to release the slide most of the time, anyway. The cases eject over my right shoulder, and to be honest I don't notice them going by. However I have shot some pistols that blow the cases right back in the face when shooting left handed, that will get your attention.
