Now Harry Reid!

I agree with Old Fuff. Obama is the one in the chair who made the most promises, and will end up breaking more of them than the legislators. In doing so he'll alienate some of his supporters.

I think the Dems will do whatever they think they've got a mandate to do plus whatever moderate issues that are central to the Dem party platform. The nation is not in an uproar about EBR ownership. Holder had to cite the drug war in Mexico (i.e. another country) to try to make it relevant (and it didn't work).

I think we're blessed that Pelosi is a completely transparent politician, and predictable as a clock.

Methinks that Reid&Pelosi realize that an outright ban will be neither needed nor necessary.

The semi-auto will eventually be regulated and restricted to the point of marginalization and irrelevance just as the full-auto has been for decades now.

You mean like expiry of the AWB, CCW in 48 states, Heller etc.....yes I'm really seeing "marginalization and irrelevance" here.

Hey in other news too, The US Senate Repealed DC's gun laws enacted after Heller on Thursday.

Not sure how the marginalization, is happening, but gun control to me at the moment seems to be slipping a little. I don't think that the fights over by any means, however political will seems to be lacking in attempting create additional gun controls, for the time being, but the wheel will turn, at some point.

George W Bush was probably the biggest friend to gun owners this country has seen since before the gun ban in 1968 and will likely see for long time. However now that he is gone it is Senator Reid who I believe will most likely keep a new AWB from being passed, or any new gun legislation for that matter, and who now happens to be the gun owner's best hope in Congress.

He is the majority leader from a state that can easily swing Republican. The GOP is known to target high ranking members of Congress who are holding seats in districts/states that often elect Republicans. For example Tom Foley and Tom Daschle. Reid is up for reelection in 2010. He needs every vote he can garner and he does not want to alienate the many libertarian/gun owners in his state.

I am not not saying he personally cares whether or not one passes but he would like to continue to me the majority leader in the Senate. A AWB does not put any money in his or his states pockets directly so I seriously doubt he will push it.

The Dems have power and don't want to lose it. If they choose to attack right now, voters who could care less about guns will flip out because our country is hemmoraging jobs and still fighting in two countries. These are the same folks who voted the Dems in. They are more concerned about getting their handouts they were promised. Gun control means that the politicians are working on something other than giving these voters their promised unicorn and rainbow.

On top of that, Reid and Pelosi remember what happened the last time Dems got gun control happy. They lost almost all of their power. However, they are piranhas and a national tragedy would be a perfect opportunity to try to steal away gun rights.

Need I remind you that Americans have already been propagandized into believing a collection of myths that paint machine guns and shotguns with a certain barrel length as intrinsically evil and the right tool for a thug, gangster, and hoodlum?

Therefore, it's quite conceivable that the purchase and sale of so-called assault weapons could also one day be heavily taxed, regulated, and registered with the government.

It's not some draconian ban; just a "reasonable" public safety measure that would go a long way in stemming violent crime and which offends nobody's Second Amendment rights.

Yeah, until it hits Idaho, or New Hampshire. Don't overlook that there is a LOT of dissatisfaction with Federal Government overriding state Governments and abusing interstate commerce laws to enforce Federal Legislation. When you have about 32 or so States currently running Sovereignty bills through the state congresses the Federal Government is almost certain to be treading lightly at least until the State Legislation is ratified, or dies.
