First my thanks to all of those who contributed to my earlier thread titled "Sig or HK" your input was excellent! Basically I will probably get a certified preowned P226 for $523.00 shipped but there a P229 2 tone with night sites available locally for $600 that is calling to me. For me the main difference is the barrel length so my question is how much difference does the extra half inch make for all practical purposes? Is there much difference in accuracy at 25 yards and beyond? Does the extra length (and 2 oz weight) make much difference in recoil/muzzle flash? I probably won't carry it but will might and I will shoot IDPA with it. Lastly does anyone know if the reconditioned Sigs are upgraded to the short reset trigger if they weren't born that way?
Thanks.

All you need for IDPA is the abilit to hit a 10" target, usually at less than 20 yards, so I wouldn't worry about that. Beyond 25, I go get a rifle.

I'd go with which one feels better in your hand, rather than barrel length. The P226 in .40 seems to shoot a little softer than the P229 but not enough to worry about and in 9mm it's a wash.

I don't believe either the short trigger or the short reset trigger are part of the CPO package. I detested the short trigger on my P239 but it may work better with a double stack.

Not going to touch upon what has already been said; however, your question regarding the SRT hasn't been answered. Unless you are buying a P226 Elite CPO, it will not have the SRT. The SRT is an upgrade and comes standard on the Elites and the newer stripped down version of the Elite with the dreaded beavertail.
