NRA benefits to Gun Clubs?

Can someone explain what benefits a Gun Club derives from requiring all its members be NRA members? I have absolutely no problem with a requirement that a prospective Club member be a member of a national gun rights organization (GOA, JPFO, yes, even the NRA) but why ONLY the NRA?

I have found that the NRA will pay a commission on memberships sold but not much else of any notable importance
(http://www.nrahq.org/clubs/benefits.asp). The Clubs in the Atlanta area that I have checked into all require NRA membership to join or renew. (One even requires authorization for a criminal background check to apply!)

In that the NRA was instrumental in getting the AWB, waiting periods and, magazine limits passed; and now a current and a former Board member are trying to get further restrictions on firearms ownership in the form of expanded NICS (with individuals who’s avowed aim is to eliminate all private firearm ownership): What is the benefit to a Club that is so great as to override the benefits of individuals right to firearms ownership and possession?

What am I missing?

Not much. Other than a good understanding of the situation.

Of all the organizations you have mentioned, how many have nationally recognized new shooter training programs, hunter training programs, organized shooting competitions, and other such programs? These are some of the often over-looked benefits of the NRA over any other national gun organization. Perhaps the clubs you have looked at have a better grasp of the situation and the benefits of NRA membership than you do.

These accusations have been hashed over many times on this board and others. What I sense is another NRA-bashing thread in the making.

Hey, it's your choice. If you don't want to follow the club rules, go shoot somewhere else.

Or better yet, build your own range and make whatever requirements you want for club membership.

Liability insurance is a biggie.

Thanks for adding some benefits I did not consider.

I never say nor have I said that the NRA is perfect. No one or no association is. Nor have I ever bashed any other gun rights organization. Well, once I pointed out how Larry Pratt was a bit ineffective the one time I saw him on TV. But he was trying to deal with an anti-host who was giving preference to the anti's on the show.

But the indisputable fact is that the NRA does more over the whole spectrum of firearms training, gun safety education, support of shooting locations and programs than all the rest of the pro-gun organizations put together.

Insurance, you need a certain percentage of members to belong to the nra for them to insure the club. It easier to keep track of that percentage if all club members are nra members.
