NRA clout is outgunning Feinstein

Justin, even in engineering 5% differences is often threashold for saying that the difference matters. For example, if you have a complex system, say an AMRAAM, or a Tomahawk and you determine by analysis that the first bending mode of the missile will occur at, say, 200Hz, and you do a test and find that the actual first bending mode occurs at anywhere from 190-210Hz, the analysis model is considered to be a pretty darn good representation of the actual missile. If you can match within 5% on the second and third bending modes, and the first torsional mode the model is considered accurate enough to predict responses to vibration inputs, and hence calculate fatigue lives. It's not often that you can get any analysis model to match that well however.

If you have a model that matches to within 2%, and you make changes that drop that difference to 1.32% (66% reduction), your boss will yell at you for wasting time and money on a meaningless effort.

Edit: Disclamer - those frequency numbers were pulled out of the air and have no bearing on real missiles.

B.Roberts,

This Country's demographics are constantly changing for the worse. We have a forever growing minority base that willl work against us from here on out. One large minority group has no concern for our Constitution's 2nd amendment, and the other has no understanding of English altogether. What concerns the majority of them at the polls is what a polotician can offer them. (And the right to bear arms isn't on that list.) Then of course you have good ole home bred soccer moms and their skirt wearing husbands. Combine this with their kids who are a rebellious and hedonistic young generation, influenced by the fluff of a leftast Hollywood culture and a biased media, and what you have is a country today that has not even the will to fight for its own survival. This is why the best we can ever hope to elect is a George W.Bush moderate. (and barely elected at that!) I am looking at September as simply my last opportunity to buy a couple of ugly black guns that I may feel a pride of ownership, and can enjoy firing at the range. Thankfully, at 50, I won't have to suffer as long as some of you guys in witnessing this country's demise.

Clinton and much of his Democratic party was almost booted out of office for being too radical with his gays in the military, and national healthcare proposals. Look what we have now; Supreme court endorsed gay marriage! As long as the Democrats don't make such errors again, I expect them to easilly become the dominant party in coming years. (though I don't know what they would have tp propose nowadays to really shock anybody)Guys like me who believe in God, Gun, Country, and smaller government that should tax less and just leave me the hell alone, are quickliy becoming a vani.shing b.reed.......

...so too, will your gun rights!

I was wondering though, do you guys think Feinstein and her group really believe their own BS...
No.
or are they just drumming up public support while they push for an eventual semiautomatic ban in the future?
Almost right. She is on record as favoring total civilian disarmament. From your Barretts .50 cal, to your daisy BB gun, she want them all. The "Assault Weapons" crap is just a wedge issue, to divide gun owners and hunters, and to scare the sheeple.

edit: closed tag.

btw, Feinstein is 71, here's hoping she DOESN'T have a Strom-like run, as she is not likely to be voted out of her CA Senate seat any time in the next few years.

Every demagogue needs a population to demonize. Di's is gun owners. That's really all there is to it. In this country at this time, a public figure is not likely to get away with using racial, ethnic, or sexual minorities as her demonized group (which I think says something very positive about us as a nation), but gun owners are politically-correct fair game.

Well, VaniB - I don't share your pessimism. I remember what gun control looked like in the late 80s and early 90s where the major question seemed to be what to ban next - machineguns, scary looking weapons, handguns?

Today we have healthy concealed carry programs and we are less than two months away from ending one of the bans. We have more pro-gun votes in both the House and the Senate then we did ten years ago and with the Internet, we have ways to organize and share our opinion that we never had before.

Only four years ago, the question among Democratic candidates during the debates was whether to register and license handguns or ban them entirely. The "moderate" view that gun owners should be licensed and registered like sex offenders won out. Now fast forward four years and even the most radical, lunatic Democrats didn't dare suggest either of those policies in a public forum.

We are definitely making progress on the RKBA front - and one reason I consider the RKBA a very important right is because it tends to be a good predictor of how much concern they show for other rights as well.

We are going to win this fight. It won't happen today and not tomorrow either; but eventually, we will win.

nope, Uzis and Romanian Kalshnikovs are foreign made un sporting rifles
not covered by the SAW portion of the 1994 Omnibus Crime Bill

Robert Spitzer of the State University of New York at Cortland, who has studied gun legislation, said Feinstein can claim some success.

"There is truth in that the assault weapons ban put a partial brake on guns and that effect will be gone after Sept. 13,'' he said.

Maybe he should check out the VPC's web site where they collect data from the BATF about the numbers of pistols, rifles, and shotguns sold each year, especially the jumps from the late 80's/early 90's to when the ban went into effect. People started buying AR's in droves once the government put the restrictions on them.
