Do you really want to use a "shoot me light?"<P>Tactical lights are fine for SWAT teams busting in at 3AM after the flash bangs go off. That is, fine for 4 or more guys to find a just sleeping stunned and blinded perp in bed and keep him from reaching for his bedside gun, and shoot him first if he does.<P>But if you the home owner gets up after midnight to explore a noise, inside or outside, and you 'lead with your light' you are handing it all to the bad guy. "Here I am! Here I come! Hide now! Get ready to shoot the moron with the light after he walks past! <P>Remember, your great advantage is that you know where everything is with your eyes closed. Once you blast that sure fire light, YOUR night vision is shot too! Then you HAVE to leave it on. As the SWAT guys train, once the lights go on, they stay on. Fine for SWAT **TEAMS** working together, carrying MP-5s, wearing full armor and tac comms, but the lone home owner? NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!<P>Now if you absolutely MUST use it, you must resist the (almost impossible) desire to search with it, and ONLY use hte light at the last 0.1 second to confirm that the guy you are about to shoot is not your stupid drunk brohter in law. I prefer to warn everyone "don't sneak into my house, drunk or sober, it could get you killed."<P>All my opinions, your mileage may vary.

I have a G2 and an E2e. The G2 does "nightstand" and "takin' the nightly constitutional" duty, and I normally carry the E2e in my pockets with the rest of my junk. It sure beats carrying a Mag-Lite around.

I carry a Surefire E2 daily. One in each of my vehicles. 6P on the nightstand. Would I use one to clear my house? Yes. Is that what it's primarily for? No.
I use it to see to unlock my car door (no night lights, can't stand 'em unless I want it on). I use it to find things dropped in the dark. (I'm clumsy at times.)

If I were a 'bad-guy' and I were surprised by someone with a bright light, the first thing I'd do is snap off a shot at the light. If the light is being held alongside the head of the owner, I'd stand a fair chance of either disturbing his aim or his brain.

You have to identify your target though. Thus, a light.
Shooting without identifying your target is breaking a cardinal gun safety rule, and is exactly how we get cases where a homeowner shoots an innocent person and makes us all look bad.
There is a right way and a wrong way to use the light. Using it the wrongway makes you a target. Using it the right way gives you a huge advantage both in tactics and safety.

My E1e is in my pocket all the time. Another in the nightstand.
I wanted an E2e until I got my Streamlight Scorpion which also goes on the nightstand. The next time I'm near the store again I'm going to get 2 more Scorps. At $34.95, I can buy 2 Streamlights for the price of 1 E2e.
I'll still get E2 at some point. I carry the Scorp at night on the belt even though I keep the E1e with me all the time.
Oh yea, and a knife and gun.

I hate to be a smart a**, but I can tell everyone replying to your thread are real "experts in the art of combat."
If you are interested in a combat light please take a real combat course in night combat, most confrontations take place at night and the knowlege is more than justified.
I highly recomend a combat light with the knowlege to use it correctly.
I can recomend courses and literature is if you are intersted.
Owning a piano no more makes you a musician than owning a gun makes you a gunfighter or an expert in tactical weopons use.
I am not an expert, but I can certianly recomend experts to further educate you.

Oh..and make sure you don't have a "clapper". You and the bad guy might look like you were playing pattycake. Good guy clap on, Bad guy clap off...clap on...clap off....
Oh and for the home, I use a 4D Cell maglight. Makes a great intermediate weapon if you need to thunk an ol noggin.
