i bought a nylon 66 as a plinker a few years back and it's been functioning fine. until yesterday. i had a failure to extract and after working the action a few times the bolt locked back and won't budge. i've heard these things are a beast to reassemble after repairs and want to know if there is a good manual i could get to disassemble it and fix it myself.

Depends whether you've got a Nylon 66 or a Nylon 66 GS. For the Nylon 66, Gun Parts Corp. has a schematic here. For the Nylon 66 GS, they offer a PDF format schematic with parts list - see here. You could also contact Remington - their user support home page is here.

The 66 is somewhat complicated to disassemble, but not quite the "bear" many think.

One simple task is to remove the "receiver" cover. Remove the two screws on the steel cover and slide the cover up and off the stock.

With the cover off the operating parts are exposed, and you may be able to find the problem and fix it yourself.

It's possible the problem is nothing more than built up crud.
Try spraying the exposed action with a good lube like Rem-Oil, allow to soak a while, then try operating the bolt.

A good source of information can be found at Nylon Rifles , a Yahoo forum group. If you are really interested, I can email you the factory field stripping manual in TIFF format. It's easily viewable using the Microsoft image viewer (found in the "accessories" menu).
