President Barack Obama pledged his administration will draft “concrete proposals” by the end of next month to help stem gun violence in the U.S. and endorsed restrictions on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.

This is pretty worrying and the political climate seems ripe for the anti-gun lobby to take advantage of the recent tragedies. :(

Are there any high-capacity clips? I really am only familiar with Garand clips, but I don't think those would qualify as high capacity.

this must be whats got them all hot and bothered....

How shocking! And for those members (yes, there were some) who voted for Obama with the naive notion that he wasn't "really" anti-gun, maybe now you can come to the table of reality and eat a little crow-not that it will make any difference. Too late for that. The trouble with a democracy has always been that the smart minority go down with the same ship the stupid majority sank-and the rats have already left this boat.

It ought to illegal to legislate or make executive decisions on anything until you can pass a test over what the various associated terms mean and you can demonstrate that you have a clue what you're talking about. Pass that law and 2A will be safe forever.

SwampWolf, if you think Mitt Romney would not have signed another AWB like he did when he was guv, I think you're trying to fool yourself. Even GWB said he would sign one. Mitt Romney actually did sign one already.

The choices in the past election were between "lousy" and "poor".

We got what we got and the consequences of our choice await us.

Folks, there will be no gun ban. How do I know? Obama showed me.

It's going to an outside committee chaired by Biden to bring back a proposal at the end of January. Committees are where ideas go to die. Obama doesnt want this. Reid doesn't want this. There is no need for a Committee. Those folks know exactly want they want to do, they just know its a non-starter.

If you wanted to go full bore gun control there is no way you take a month and a half off to convene a study. It gives the NRA time to gather the troops and the emotionalists time to move on. It's all down side for them. If you had asked me what the best play for the NRA would be, I would say. "convene a study."

So put down that overpriced surefire magazine and take a breath.

Obama and Reid do want an AWB. The only thing stopping them is figuring out how to get what they want and keep as many of their kind in power at the same time. In 94, they got the AWB but many lost face and even seats over it. But don't think for one minute that they've stopped wanting it. Even allegedly "pro gun" Harry Reid. They hate that you have guns. To them, it's not a matter of desire, but strategy.

I am a firm believer that we, as a firearm supporting community, need to enlist all of our friends and supporters to send a letter, email or call your senator and congressman and urge them to support 2A rights. Furthermore I would urge each of you to make it clear that you will be watching to see how your representative votes on a potential bill and that you will remember that at the next election. We MUST make a lot of noise with our representatives - be polite, be professional, and be firm.

I've already sent messages to the Kansas Senators and Representatives and will continue to urge my friends and family members to do the same.

And this is a surprise? Look at his voting record in the Illinois senate, and statements bout Pennsylvanians "clinging to their guns and religion". He has ALWAYS indicated he was for gun bans, and more draconian restrictions on law abiding gun owners.

This isn't Australia, or the UK we need to fight back through our elected officials, NRA, and our own voices to the media.

He said he wanted an AWB in the 3rd debate. His press seceratary said the same earlier in the campaign. This is not news. I'm sure he already had draft bills ready, they are just being polished now.

Really? You apparently are in for a very unpleasant surprise-another AWB is going to be the least of your worries when this leftist President and his Democratic and media cohorts are done with you and our right to keep and bear arms. You don't need crystal ball to make a prediction-just examine this socialist's voting record during the short time he served in the U.S. Senate. Elections have consequences and you can thank those who re-instated a hard core, left-wing ideologue, along with an avowed anti-gun Vice-President, into power for the liberty-robbing consequence of further eroding the sentiments expressed by our Founding Fathers in the Second Amendment.

Pittspilot: Although I sincerely hope you are correct, I believe you are wrong. The Sandy Hook school shooting was the situation that the Gun Grabbers have been waiting and sadly hoping for. There are plenty of either Anti Gun or just don't care folks out there to let an AWB slide by. People are looking for something to blame for the tragedy so the President gives them guns. Check out the Youtube video the White House put out today where the President wants legislation passed by the end of January.
