I know most of you already know this about him, but I will still share it with you guys. Today I sent Sen. Obama an email requesting his standing on firearms policies and this is the reply that he sent me.

Dear Friend,

Thank you for contacting me about gun laws and the Second Amendment. I
appreciate hearing from you on this important issue. Americans broadly
agree that guns must be kept from those who may pose a threat, and that
the
rights of legitimate hunters and sportsmen should be protected.

We must work to ensure that guns do not fall into the hands of
criminals or
the mentally ill through an effective background check system. We also
have
to strike a reasonable balance between public safety and sportsmen's
rights.

I will continue to work for effective gun laws, including reinstatement
of
the assault weapons ban that the last Congress allowed to expire, and
effective law enforcement. I will also speak out against the culture of
violence that traps so many of our young people.

Thank you again for contacting me on this important issue.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama

Nothing we didnt already know. He has (publicly) softened his stance since he started running for prez, but dont trust him. I didnt know this until a THR'er told me, but he is (or was) on the board of directors for the Joyce Foundation so that should tell you all we need to know.

Only for hunters & Sportsmen? What constitutes a sport? Is target practice at the range a sport? I guess it could be considered if you keep score. Wht about 3 gun?

I hat it when Politicians talk about things they have no knoweledge of. I'd be t Obama doesn't own a gun and has never fired a gun. And nowhere in hi letter does he say he will defend the constitution and the second amendment. Do you think he even knows the 26 words that make it up?

He's a senator from Illinois. What did you expect? Might as well been John Kerry's or Ted "Burp" Kennedy's stance on the 2nd.

"I'd be t Obama doesn't own a gun"

I'll take that bet. There are a ton of anti-gun, gun owning hypocrites out there (Feinstien, Boxer, Rosie). Even if he doesn't, I'm sure he has plenty of people carrying guns for him.

Obama for AWB.....and supported by Country Club Republicans:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article1752381.ece

DISILLUSIONED supporters of President George W Bush are defecting to Barack Obama, the Democratic senator for Illinois, as the White House candidate with the best chance of uniting a divided nation.

Tom Bernstein went to Yale University with Bush and co-owned the Texas Rangers baseball team with him. In 2004 he donated the maximum $2,000 to the president’s reelection campaign and gave $50,000 to the Republican National Committee. This year he is switching his support to Obama. He is one of many former Bush admirers who find the Democrat newcomer appealing.

<snip>

Financiers have also been oiling Obama’s campaign. In Chicago, his home town, John Canning, a “Bush pioneer” and investment banker who pledged to raise $100,000 for the president in 2004, has given up on the Republicans. “I know lots of my friends in this business are disenchanted and are definitely looking for something different,” he said.

Not to be outdone, Hillary Clinton has many Republican defectors of her own, including John Mack, chief executive of Morgan Stanley, who helped raise $200,000 for the president’s reelection, qualifying him as a “Bush ranger”. He said last week that he was impressed by Clinton’s expertise. “I know we’re associated mainly with the Republicans but we’ve always gone for the individual,” Mack said.

According to figures compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics in Washington, Obama and Clinton have vacuumed up more than $750,000 (£375,000) in individual contributions from former Bush donors.

Sadly I've run into my share of Country Club Golf-cart driving Republicans who
feel "there's no need for anyone to have an AW." Then they sit around in inner
circle leadership meetings wondering why they can't motivate their base when
they need it at election time.

How can Republicans effectively counter Obama? Show some leadership. Start
mobilizing the base under someone who actually stands for something.

Try Ron Paul.

So, Obama has the exact same view on the Assault Weapons ban as many major Republicans running for president.

This is also the exact same opinion on the AWB that President Bush has stated many times.

Guiliani and Romney both have the same opinion as well.

Is that your point?

Yeah F'ning right. Look at the source on that article, from the UK, where they also banned glass cups in bars.

I really doubt that - "Oh we're disaffected with Bush upsetting the conservative base. So, instead we're going to support Barrack, the biggest left wing candidate in the race" - is what disaffected Republicans are saying.
He is one of many former Bush admirers who find the Democrat newcomer appealing

And by many, they mean "we found all 2 of them".

Article is dumb as hell.

guns must be kept from those who may pose a threat

A threat to whom, I do wonder out loud.

But this is old news. Obama couldn't get my vote if he brought me a case of ammo.

Sorry if you were more annoyed with my post than amused. I just thought some would actually like to see his personal response to someone's email. If you really don't care, then don't post some needless comments. Or do you just like to see your screenname on here? Just ignore these threads people if you don't find info in them.
