Okay got to checking all my C&B revolvers. Wanted to dress all the nipples and verify the size for future reference.

Most of the Italian guns Nipples are threaded M6 x .75
My ROA is 12-28

Then I have this used Colt style stainless steel revolver
Written on the barrel is:
Model 1860 Army .44cal (left side)
Black Powder Only, Made in Italy (right side)
Sile Inc. - N.Y. - N.Y. (top)

It is close to M6 x .75 which screw in about two turns then start tightening up. I spent the day looking for other possible thread size.

What it is NOT.
Not M6 x .75 (this is closest) it seems slightly more coarse than .75
Not M6 x 1.0
Not M5 or M7
Not 12-28
Not 12-24
Not 1/4-28
Not 1/4-20

What are other thread sizes that are common or uncommon to pistols made in Italy?

Is there such a thing as M6 x 0.9

My goal today was to find a machine nut for each size nipple. Screw the nipple into the nut, Chuck that in a drill press and use a file or stone to dress the mushroomed ends.

For the experts out there, please reply with links to where I might find a set of replacement nipples. The guy from Big Iron Gunworks, if you're listening and know what I need, give me a call. I just placed an order so you should have my phone number. Dan Pauley in Mount Vernon, OH.

Guess I could take a picture and send it as well.
Will edit later.

status update on mystery nipples

Okay, over the course of the weekend I found out it was my error not an oddball size.

Careful measurements with a caliper found the pitch to be 0.75mm
That could only mean it was 6x.75.

I kept thinking it was some oddball 32 threads per inch which would be about 0.79mm pitch.

The real problem. Whom ever produced these particular nipples did not fully thread them properly. Apparently the die they ran over them acted like a pipe die and the thread was slightly tapered. Which fit perfectly into the cylinder which had similar threads that were not finished being cut. With so short a distance to get a measurement on the pitch of the threads was quite hard to determine.

Okay now I just need to get a quality 6mm X 0.75 tap and die. Looking for such this morning.

Thought you'd all like to hear about the final disposition.

Oh and guess who won two medals in bullseye match this weekend. wooo hooo.

ME, Thaz rite
1st in iron site category and 3rd overall in optical category.
