LEOMINSTER Mass-- The police department is investigating an incident where an off-duty officer's 7-year-old son accidentally fired a gun inside the station.

The incident took place at about 1:30 p.m. last Thursday, according to a police department press release issued on Tuesday.

Tragedy barely avoided but yet another example that the police are no safer with guns than the average citizen.

Twice negligent, IMHO.

First, for not securing the firearm around a child.

Second, for not teaching his child what not to do. My girlfriend's three-year-old knows not to play with knives, because she was taught not to (and repeatedly reinforced).

We have a shooting range on our property. I am the designated RO when people come over to shoot.

The folks that give me high blood pressure are the ex/current LEOs. Some think the Four Rules don't apply to them. They learn very quickly that they are not exempt from these rules. ;)

Remember, the only people responsible enough in Massachusetts to own guns are the Police. We mean it this time. Really.
