i was loading up some 45/70 rounds this morning, when i switched from 300 gr. bullets to 400 gr bullets, i adjusted the bullet seat depth, but must have not been enough. anyway, when the crimp happened, it kinked the shell about 1/3 of the way down from the top. of course it kinked it so the kink is outward, so it will not chamber. is there anyway to save this shell, or is it now scrap. i hate to chuck it, it is a brand new starline nickel plated peice.

I have become very proficient at accomplishing this kind of screwup, I do it to myself regularly. I remove the decapping assembly from my sizing die , very lightly lube the cartridge, and very slowly run it into the sizing die just enough that it will chamber, then it will iron out when fired. I've even done this on 30-30 cartridges that were over crimped and it wrinkled the shoulder out. Good shooting!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS MMCSRET! i did what you said, and it worked! it is still slightly wrinkled, but i know it will straighten out by fireforming. i used a reduced load, a 400 grain bullet and a good crimp. that ought to generate enough pressure to straighten it out, but not over tax the wrinkled areas. thanks again! d.s.
