Ohio: Cleveland Mayor > proposes to limit purchases of one firearm per 90 days

Cleveland's mayor Frank Jackson submitted sweeping gun control legislation that restricts purchases to just one firearm every 90 days as well as a "gun offender registry" (Whatever that means).

I thought Ohio had State Preemption, how could the Mayor get this passed? And we thought New Jersey's one gun a month was bad.

Alledgedly, the every city has to follow the states gun laws.

Honestly, I hope it passes.

The preemption laws (and for that matter, 2a) need a penalty clause.
A harsh one - monetary, plus prison, plus loss of rights and ability to hold office. On the goobermint that passes the nonsense laws AND the people that push them.

^Florida added that penalty clause in 2011. $5,000 for each offense. No prison time or loss of office under most conditions. But it did stop the madness of signs, gun locks, OL areas such as beaches, city parks etc. in the Sunshine State.

Loss of money is the one fear all politicians have in common.

Something that needs understood is that prior to 2010 Cleveland, Ohio had their own little set of gun laws. All of that nonsense was trumped when the state ended it saying that city laws could not trump state laws. The city sued and lost costing the taxpayers. Apparently the idiots running the show learned nothing. So here we are again.

Interesting is that the prior laws did absolutely nothing to curb or curtail gun violence in Cleveland. Just more of what I call feel good, do nothing legislation. To understand gun violence one needs to understand the coarsening of the US culture as well as the culture of major US cities like Cleveland. Combine that with laws that are now more enmeshed with the rights of the criminal than the victims of crime and an idiot could see where the problems lie.

Ohio gun rights groups already plan another lawsuit which has been well discussed. A city's rights to "Home Rule" does not extend to gun rights. Again, the gun rights groups will win.

Fortunately, I do not live in Cleveland but the SE suburbs.

Do ANY gun control laws really prevent violence? There are much more efficient ways to kill. The politicians focus on guns because they choose to ignore the larger issues.
