Hey, i was just kinda wondering if anyone could tell me about getting into comp. shoots in ohio, is there a leauge or something for guys that are in the under 18 age bracket? i'll be 18 in a couple months, but i'd like to get into some serious shooting before then. the only kind i really know about around here is cowboy shooting, and i'm open to that but i'm looking for something more modern where i could shoot my 1911. any info you guys could toss up would be great, thanks- Bigjake

dang, thats some proposition, i'll take ya up on it ;) i'm in amherst, about 30 miles due west of cleveland.

He he I meant shooters. If you want to shoot IPSC see Bill, Ed or Bud Connally at Crooked Creek near Cleveland. They run indoor matches right now I think in cleveland or eastlake. Buds email is [email protected]
Toledo is getting a new club that will run matches in the spring off of I 80. There is also a big IDPA club up there but I don't know the contacts. I don't shoot IDPA. There is also an active club in Erie and Pittsburg but thats for the spring and when you are really hooked.
USPSA/IPSC is the most fun you can have with a gun and your clothes on. The website www.uspsa.org is full of info. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Also check out www.brianenos.com for a great site to help you become a better competition shooter.

It all depends on what type of shooting you are looking to do and where you live.

There are quite a few clubs in Ohio with junior shooting programs, mostly rifle though. If you are into rifle shooting, you might want to try the ORPA spring clinic at Camp Perry. They basically teach you how to shoot NRA Service RIfle competition. ORPA also sponsers a state junior team, if you do well at the clinic they may ask you to join. They provide a National Match M14 and ammo.

My coach runs the state junior olympic pistol program, if you want I can give you his contact info.

Tusco rifle club also has lots of junior activities.

Just a note, you are considered a Junior until the year in which you will turn 21.

BigJake,
The South Cuyahoga Sportsmans Club has an indoor (partially heated) IDPA practice session every Tuesday evening that starts between 6:00 and 6:30. It's open to the public and new shooters are welcome.
It is on Erhart Road about 2 1/2 miles south of Rt. 18 east of Litchfield.
Any questions should be addressed to Mark McJunkin at: [email protected]
Mark is the resident "Range Nazi" and all round good guy. You may have to wait until your 18th before you can shoot, but you can come and watch to get an idea of what's going on. Mark can answer any questions.

Between April and September, the Beaver Creek Sportsmans Club on Quarry Road, has an informal defensive pistol shoot every Wednesday evening. Rifle and shotgun are thrown in on occasion.
Neither of these clubs require membership to shoot.

North Olmsted Sportsmans Club has regular Friday evening indoor Defensive pistol matches but you most be a member.

Neil, those palces are all like really close to me. I might have to swing by the one in litchfield just to have a look sometime, since i'm not quite 18 yet, but i'm interested. heck, i don't know what IDPA means, but i'm interested in joining something that involves shooting (if the situtation in iraq continues to deteriorate, i might end up doing a little more extra curricular shooting.... free ammo though) anyways...i'll try and get in contact with the range nazi.

On the beaver creek place, would i be alowed there on a weds? i'd like to learn how to use my pistol better defencivly, that would be a great tool to have in knowledge. plus that would be closer to me.

Falconer. sounds interesting, i've been that way before, i might have to drop in on that camp perry match, have you any contact info on it?

Bseevers, thanks for all the help, i'll pry be in touch with ya about that when i get spare moment, i appriciate the help man.

BigJake,
Here is the link to the IDPA website.

I believe Beaver Creek will let you shoot at their matches. They usually start again shortly after the time change in April. They aren't affiliated with any discipline and usually just have some safe fun and you get to learn some stuff.

At most places you will need hearing and eye protection just to be on the range so come prepared. If you don't want to shoot right away at least come and watch how the rest of us make fools of ourselves.

How about those Buckeyes!

thanks again guys, i actualy plan on the camp perry thing now, sounds like alota fun, i'll definatly hit beaver when it opens up too.

heck yeah man, the bucks rule! thats the greatest thing ever. now i really want into OSU. can't say the same for the brownies though, i guess they just thought they were good enough to stop playing with 3 min to go.....oh well, i'd rather have the bucks as nat'l champs than us beating the lowly steelers anyway.

heck yeah i'm thinking about OSU, its my first choice right now, second is Taylor U in indiana, but with my grades(mediocre) i'll pry end up going to Local college for 2 years for cost. if i get accepted i'm most definatly going though. I'm technicly graduating june 2004, but i start PSEO at the college hopefully next year.
