I have not yet determined what rifle I am going to get...But I do know I am going to get one.

So what do I need to clean it? My only other rifles are an M44 and a Marlin .22WMR. I don't clean the .22 a lot and there is never copper fouling or anything that doesn't come out in a couple minutes. The M44's bore never seems to actually be clean.

So what do I need for cleaning equiptment? I want one of those synthetic rods so as not to damage my new rifle...Which one should I get? Is the Caldwell one on the ball bearings that much better than the regular "stick-n-handle" versions?

I know I need bore brushes.

What about a cleaning jag? I have never found that pushing a patch through that isn't even tight to the bore not to work very well.

What about cleaning chemicals? I have a bottle of Hoppes No. 9 cleaner that I use on all my other guns. I have some CLP but because it smells bad I don't use it regularly to oil/clean my guns. Do I need copper remover? What about lead deposit remover?

Cleaning Rod - I recently bought a Dewey one-piece coated rod. Absolutely worth the money, get one of these.

Cleaning jag - never had much use for one myself, I just use bore brushes, chamber brushes, and a patch puller. I double or triple up on the patches to get them tight against the bore.

Chemicals - Get some Butch's Bore Shine, it removes copper fouling and lead. For lube go with FP-10. FP-10 is alot like CLP except it smells like cinnamon instead of oil.

I have some Hoppes high viscosity gun oil. 3-in-1 oil seems to work good too. Since this is going to be a hunting rifle, I don't want smelly oils.

But that does sounds nice...Cinnamon.
