The Whitworth rifle was one of the first true long range muzzleloaders. It's accuracy was legendary and it's still considered to be very respectable. It was extremely high tech in its day and the Confederacy purchased all they could. Only about 250 made it through the blockade and of those, very few still survive and they fetch over $150,000 when they do appear. Whitworth also sold rifles to the public in England during the War and most of the surviving Whitworth accoutraments are those sold to English civilians.
So a friend of mine has a Whitworth repop. He'd seen the cases and stuff that an English civilian model would have had and the Confederate ones would have been similarly equipped. He asked me if I could make a case similar to what a civilian would have had and since I have a wood shop and can use a couple tools, here goes.
Original civilian Whitworth case-
And my version with a few modifications
