Old double barrell, looking for info

I am looking for any information I can find on this old 10 guage shotgun I have. It's made by W.&C. Scott and Son. I think it is a British gun because it says "Castle St. Regent Circus, London" It's a side by side, dual trigger. There are intricate ingravings on it also of a dog and a bird on either side. If you could give me any info that'd be great. Thanks.

WC Scott & Son was a name maker, eventually evolving into Webley and Scott.

LIke all old shotguns, this should not be fired until after a good smith has examined it and A, pronounced it safe to fire, and B, what shells it takes. Chances are it's chambered for the old 2 7/8" shell or the even older 2 9/16" hull.

It's not, repeat not, suitable for modern 3 1/2" 10 gauge ammo. The shorter shells are available but neither common nor cheap.

From the pics, I'd venture that the barrels have been cut back. This removes the choke and most of the value. If those are steel barrels and not damascus or twist, it may still be fun for skeet, CAS and even HD.

Saw the text and my interest piqued. Saw the first photo and my eye's widened, became excited at the second photo and then just about puked when I saw the third.

This was once a fine gun and one to be proud of. It isn't any more due to the cut barrels.

All of Dave's advice is on the mark. It's not suitable for modern 10 gauge loads. It looks in good shape and the wood's nice too. Damn shame about the barrels.

By chance I ran across a similar gun for sale in an ad in the latest issue of Shooting Sportsman. A WC Scott 10 gauge hammer gun with nitro proofs. $2200 is the asking price.

With the barrels cut back, this might go for $400 on a good day.

Catch my drift?....
