I just bought an old Rossi(importer was Firearms International Corp.) .32
S&W long(j frame) for cheap and it's in good condition except for the fact
that it seems to pierce primers 80% of the time with the rounds I tried(Federal
.32 S&W long 98 grain lead wadcutter). It seems to have quite a bit of end
shake, could this have something to do with it? Should I try another type
of ammo? Can I fix this myself because I'd rather not have to pay a smith
for such an inexpensive piece? Thanks...

This question was posted elsewhere and I replied that the mainspring (hammer spring) is too weak. I gave the actual cause there and won't repeat it here.

Thanks again for the reply Jim. But your answer on the other board was
a little confusing because you said the "firing pin spring" was too weak.
I got you now, and thanks again....

I will try some different ammo too. :)
