Hi,

I have a 1982 model Tasco Fixed 4x that came from the factory on my Marlin 30AS as a combo. First of all, I believe it's a Korean Tasco based on the year of manufacture? Is it any good?

I'm thinking of putting it onto my FN commercial Mauser 98 rifle, do you think the older Tasco will withstand the recoil of full power 8mm Mauser loads? The rifle will be used mainly for Moose, Deer at 100-150 yards max. Also, in terms of weaver bases I've looked up #45 and #46 as standard. Do you think the 4x fixed scope will be long enough for the Mauser's action with standard bases or do I need an extended front base like the #402?

I believe the modern offering by Tasco is the 4x32mm Pronghorn : http://www.tasco.com/products/index.cfm?ClassID=13&FamilyID=166&ProductID=687

Length (in./mm): 12/305

The scope should say on it where it's made. The Tasco scopes that's were made in Japan were/are well made scopes. Either way, there is only one way to tell if it will hold up.
