Went out and bought a Marlin Bolt Model 50 and a Winchester 1400 Mk.II this week.
Got the bug by posting about my Pardners (Chicoms) and some of the brethren here mentioned buying used domestic make shotguns as they were so plentiful..

So I did. I wanted something different and the Marlin Model 50 was picked. It is stocked in a beautiful piece of walnut and is a full choke 28"barrel.

Never saw one like it and it looks brand new.

The Winchester is in excellent shape save for a few character marks and after a detail cleaning and a trip to the woods to see how it shot, I am well pleased.

$120 for the marlin and $225 for the Winnie, which is also in a beautiful walnut stock and forearm. Gun is post 1968 vintage.

Not bad and bought at my favorite local mom and pop gun shop!

There's lot of good buys out there if you look.:)

I'm starting the second year of ownership of a 1400. It has its first Duck season (with me ) behind it. I bought it on Gunbroker shipped, and transfered for about $285. I found myself going to it for almost every Duck hunt this past season. It's a very pleasant gun to shoot, so much so, that I just this past week, picked one up in 16ga. Enjoy your new found treasures. best wishes.....chas

Your are so right about the 1400 being a soft recoiling gun.

I shot three rounds of buckshot thru it and it wasn't near as bad as shooting buckshot thru a pump gun.

I haven't fired the Marlin yet but hear that it has quite a jolt.

I'm not recoil shy. I shoot an m38 Mosin Nagant carbine and also have an m44 and those guns, to me, are fun to shoot.:)
