Omega questions

My uncle just bought an Omega, he is trying to find a cheaper way of shooting it at the range. He has heard that you can shoot 45 caliber handgun bullets out of his 50 caliber Omega....is this true? and if so, he needs sabots......What kind of sabots do you recomend with hornady xtp bullets?

If he could start buying sabots and bullets seperatly, he would be saving alot of money.

Which sabot to use depends on the exact caliber of the bullet that's chosen.
Hornady makes XTP's in .44 (.430 - 240 & 300 grains) and .45 (.452 - 250 & 300 grains).
Hornady also makes XTP Mag bullets which expand less at closer range.

MMP sabots is probably the largest sabot manufacturer and makes several different sizes and sabot styles for nearly every bullet and application.
They also offer advice on which bullet/sabot combinations work well together.

Another sabot maker is Harvester that makes crush ribs sabots.

It's usually best to try out a bullet/sabot combination before buying them in bulk. But 240 to 250 grain bullets are probably the most popular weights for muzzle loading bullets.

So are you allowed to shoot any pistol bullet? as long as the sabot/bullet "match" each other? Like round nose bullets, hollow point, un-copper plated?

Just wondering......
