Just started reading "Ominous Parallels" by Leonard Peikoff and it's the first book in 40 years that I can't put down. The beginning is explaining the environment in pre-WWII Germany and is getting into how the Holocaust was "allowed" to happen.
I'm still having trouble comprehending, but there's much more to read. Maybe I just take our Bill of Rights for granted or I just carry on the genes of my ancestors who said "later, dudes, and good luck to ya'all".
The notions that are invoked are that there's a chance that all humans are exactly the same whether from remote jungles that have never seen a lightbulb to the most modern industrialized nations. And that the United States would be screwed if all 50 states were run with the same irresponsible government that runs New Jersey. I'm thinking that the entire Bill of Rights absolutely needs to be preserved in it's entirety or we be in big trouble. I'll repost if there's any revelations upon completing the book.
