On a plane w/ gun parts in luggage?

I know there are lost of rules for flying with a gun in checked baggage, but are there any rules for having gun parts (ie. barrel, reciever, etc) in your checked baggage? Also, what about sending the same parts through the mail, is there any hassle, or can ya just mail em?

I would declare anything that is not a small piece of metal. Legally, a receiver is a firearm, and something like a fully assembled upper looks enough like one to the TSA monkeys. Only rule about mailing is you can't send a handgun (or its frame) via USPS (unless you have an FFL).

As far as I know you can just mail all the parts except the receiver (the item with the serial) I'd make sure they are very clean .. no powder residue whatsoever.
The receiver would have to be sent through an FFL.. but this is just off the top of my head.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

ask H&H hunter (who works for the airlines) for further reference
but IMHO if it looks like a gun to the average airline counter clerk
or TSA screener, it will be presumed to be a gun. so if it was me and it
was a barrel or a reciever or a magazine or a box of ammmo or
anything else like that, i would tell them at the counter what i had
and let them tell me it doesn't count as a gun
