One more knife

Earlier this year I decided to try to make a knife that would look old. I wanted to make something that could have been made by a talented frontier blacksmith or gunsmith in the 1850's-1875's time frame. This is what evolved. I had no idea what I was doing when it came to giving it an aged appearance. It was all an experiment.

It is made from a 14" Nicholson lathe file with a stag handle and 3/8" bronze for a guard. I don't remember the exact dimensions but the blade is about 9" long and almost 1/4" thick. I made a sheath but decided that it looked too modern and am in the process of making another. It's cold outside and I need something to do to stay warm.

Great knife.

Did you "antique" the antler, or was that just how it looked?

The antler color is the result of applying Febings med.brown leather dye until I got the look I wanted . Feibing's oil based leather dye will color damn near any thing. Even nylon carpet if you aren't careful.

Id like to build me some knives; do you have any advice on a good place to find knife blanks or knife kits?

Briarpatch, I like Jantz Knife Supply. Shipping is fast and customer service is great. I've read good things about Texas Knife Makers Supply also have no personal experience with them.
