I took my comfy (and rather heavily used) Kahr E9 to the range today and the slide lock lever broke. As in, is broke off.

Soooo, seeing as hold old and used the gun is, I am rather proud of how long it held out and plan on replacing the part and the recoil spring as well.

Now. Generally speaking the E9 and K9 are largely interchangeable. But is the recoil spring and slide stop? Anyone know? Because I miss it already!

I was under the same impression as well. Before shelling out the moneyz though, I figured asking couldn't hurt, right?
It's just too bad that the thing had to break at the beginning of a long weekend.

Kahr recommends a new recoil spring every 1500 rounds. Wolff sells them as well and and in differing weights. You E9, being a very early Kahr, probably came with a 22 lb spring. They later went to a 20 lb spring in the K9 and later P9.

I agree that the modern K9 parts should fit your E9, but a call to Kahr may be in order just to be sure.

I'm curious... how many rounds to you estimate have gone through your pistol?

I believe the only differences between the E9 and the K9 are cosmetic.

The E9 has a carbon steel slide. The K9 of today has a stainless slide. Early K9s also came in carbon steel. IIRC, the E9 has a traditional barrel.

I believe you can use the Wolff K9 spring kit in the E9.
I just bought two of the kits for a used K9 I recently acquired. I used the standard weight #20 and the gun runs perfectly with any ammo I've tried.

You know, honestly I have no idea.

The way I came to own it was a sentimental reason. The LGS had it laying out and it had such bad finish wear and such a smooth trigger that it felt polished both in the hand and in the trigger pull, so I bought it for cheap. Well, some nice wooden grips later, it's pretty handsome in that ... gray haired gentlemanly way.

It was shot a *lot.* And I didn't take it easier either. I put about 100 to 200 rounds through it per week for about ... three or four months.

usp9: "Kahr recommends a new recoil spring every 1500 rounds."

Where does this information come from? I'd like to know if there's a similar recommendation for my PM9.

TIA!

I was on the phone with Kahr customer service last week and they told me they recommend replacing the recoil spring in my P380 at 1200 rounds.

It's been one day shy of a week now and I can't wait for my parts to come in. I used the cheapo delivery system so uh ... they should be in by today. We'll see whether the part just fits right in, but the answer I got via the phone was pretty succinct.

"Hey, I got this E9 and the slidelock lever broke on it. I know you don't carry those so will the part from a K9 fit or should I orde-"
"Yes. It'll fit. Definitely."

Can't wait to take it out again this weekend.

Is that normal... I have almost twice that on two different handguns (Neither Kahr) and have never replaced a recoil spring. Could this effect accuracy or just the action of the gun?

Is that normal...

"Normal" varies gun to gun, from a low of a few hundred rounds to replacement, for example a Rohrbaugh, to much more, for example a modern HK rated for 20,000 rounds. It all depends on the gun. Know your own gun and it's requirements.
