You`re right. I guess if your gonna carry you should go ahead and carry everywhere. I guess that its the fear of this causing a burden on everyone else that is in my mind. But you`re totally right sir and I am wrong.

See these discussions are great. Sometimes we don`t all agree but what would be the use of these places if we did. I think that you`re very educated in this subject and I appreciate the conversation.

You`re totally right. That was a great argument and I can now understand what your saying. I was wrong in this matter and I guess it was out of the fear of this subject causing more problems than good. But like I said, you`re right, why shouldn`t be able to carry where ever you`d like? If the law says that you can then we might as well take full advantage of it. Maybe if enough people start doing it, this open carry thing will move to other states as well. We can only hope.:)

guy, you haven't made a single good point and much of your argument is simply foolish. troll maybe?

For a map of open carry states, and open carry forums, check out www.opencarry.org

Be careful there. Some of those states represent wishful thinking. One is RI, where I lived for 50 years. They call it a "licensed OC state". While technically true, if you are seen OC'ing you will get arrested every time unless you are a security guard in uniform.

It's true that after checking you and your permit out they will have no choice but to let you go. But the next time someone sees you and calls you in they will bust you again.

So I would rate RI as a "catch and release" state, with OC'ers being the lunkers.

I have no idea how many other such "traps" exist on the opencarry.org map. But I suspect that RI isn't the only one.

google search for Luby's massacre. I personally tend to conceal carry when I carry, my wife frequently doesn't know when I carry.

The off-duty Ogden police officer who stopped the mass murder in the Trolley Park Mall in Salt Lake City was carrying a Kimber .45 (concealed) and having dinner with his wife at a restaurant in the mall when he heard the shooting and "rode toward the sound of the guns."

Jim Quinn, the talk show host, said that he open carries all the time in Pittsburgh. I'm not sure I want to try this, I don't think its worth the problems that could arise.

Woodstock, you seem to be operating under the impression that people have a right to not be offended, feel comfortable, and that we all have a responsibility to make sure everyone around us feels OK and not offended by us.

That is 100% wrong in every way possible. If someone's feelings are hurt, they are afraid, or feel offended by me, my actions, my words, my beliefs, and my thoughts...

I don't care at all

This country has gotten so wrapped up in the idea that we can't do anything out of fear of offending some group or another. I just don't care any more. I'll state my beliefs about guns, gays, politics, religion, global warming, abortion, racism, anything and everything. If it offends someone, they can walk away. I'm not changing jack #### about my life to make someone else's precious emotions feel better. And I'm not gonna shut up for those emotions either. I made a conscious decision a while back to try hard not to be offended by others. I live in Ann Arbor Michigan, and I see a lot of stuff that would offend a Christian conservative like me. But I decided I'm not going to make a big fuss and whine and complain(other than at the ballot box). I'll let the flaming libs have their fun and I'll keep my mouth shut about what offends me about them.

But the trade off is I have stopped being sensitive to them in return. I'll say what I want, do what I want, and act how I want. If Open Carry is part of that, so be it. If someone is offended or afraid that I have a gun, too bad for them. Their kind doesn't care that I don't approve of the gay lifestye or abortion. So I don't care if they don't approve of guns. I can look at their rainbow bumper stickers all day, and they can look at my Walther P99. We can agree to disagree.

Woodstock, here's a friendly idea. Just for one day, or one week, try this: just stop caring. Stop caring what others think of you. Say what you want when you want. Wear what you want, do what you want. Stop caring about the opinions of those around you. You'll feel a lot better. It really does lift a weight off one's shoulders.

But what if that person who has the rainbow bumper sticker on the bumper of their car is carrying a Springfield XD-40 on their side as a civilian?

It's more of a rhetorical question than anything, but I digress....

Woodstock Wrote: Just because I can carry my weapon"I never leave home without them" doesn`t mean that I can`t use discretion on when or where I choose to carry them. Why Walmart or Macdonalds or at the theator? Why not leave it in the car while you eat or shop? I just can`t understand what a person would need his/her weapon while they had lunch or dinner or while they enjoy a movie etc.etc.
End of discussion on my part. Have a nice day and thanks for the discussion.

Wow,
You are expounding the same arguments that the anti-gun crowd throws at us. As far as your question about who would need a weapon while eating, ever hear of Luby's cafeteria in Texas and the massacre that happened there?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hennard

Why would we be safer from crime in a restaurant or theater than outside of one? And the ending of the discussion and not wanting to hear any more is also reminiscent of anti-gunners who don't want to hear truth or facts.

Many states have allowed open carry (lack of laws against) for a long long time and there have not been a bunch of incidents. Why do you believe a doom and gloom scenerio is now going to develop?
I believe, as has already been pointed out, that criminals don't want people to know they are armed until the time of their crime.

I'm always willing to hear the other sides argument.
Remember, minds are like parachutes, they function only when they are open.

open carry

Legal in Delaware, but you have the hassle factor. I see where some people think they should have permit so they can believe that the person showed that they passed a handgun safety course but PA doesn't require that for ccw. In PA , if your old enough and pass the background checks, which are done when you buy a gun, thats all you need. Police don't run a background check of any kind when applying for permit.

Different states different laws.

I recently got my ccw in Delaware and compared to PA(got a non-resident ccw) it was a very big hassle. Discretionary permits in Delaware requires, background checks with state and FBI to purchase. Also more background checks when applying with the courts, they send letters to state attorney general. 2 safety classes required, they keep originals. Ad in local paper. Lots of paperwork, lots of time and lots of money and they can still say NO!

If it weren't that taxes are much lower in DE I would move 1 mile into PA just because of these types of laws. Well at least DE has 'instacheck' , just walk into gun shop, they run a state and FBI check that takes less than 15 minutes. No 5 day waiting period.

Errr....nazzo fast.

While it does vary by county, with some sheriffs being more anal than others, they will, at minimum, run NICS/PICS on you, -and- pull your rap sheet, because there are more disqualifiers for a carry permit than there are for purchase. Some counties will in addition, call your place of employment, and the two references they make you list, and put to them the 6 or 7 questions that are on the application. (Is X a habitual drunkard? Does X want to overthrow the government of PA or USA by force? etc)

county cops

Yeah I was told by my ccw instuctor NOT to apply in Delaware county an apply in Chester county. Ended up applying in Centre county since I found a link to download the form. The laws don't change just the people with attitudes.
Had to fill out and give 3 references but nobody contacted. That was for non-resident, had just gotten ny Delaware ccw and sent them a copy.
