Opinion on .22 derringer wanted.

After listening to all, I reconsidered a bought a S&W .380 Bodyguard. A little more money for a little more punch.

BUT, friends...NEVER underestimate the lowly .22!

I'd rather have the sharp stick for SD over a .22 Derringer. Faster to deploy, just as lethal if you know what you're doing, and the effective range is about the same.

:)

Fun novelty at the range, sure. Not something I'd stake my life on.

LOL...One thing about THR, you can always predict how these threads will go.

Since I'm looking at retirement in a few years, I might just start selling sharpend sticks - seems to be quite a market for them, and unlike the hard to find .22 ammo, they are pretty abundant.

I looked hard at derringers a while back.
After my research and evaluations I decided not to go that route. I found a P64 in 9MM Mak that I am very happy with.
I think you did the right thing buying that .380.

Like I said a while back I don't recommend them for home defense or CCW, but they are a kick to shoot.

Incidentally, all this talk about derringers, caused me to go out and buy two Cobras one in .22 WMR and one in .22LR. They are a neat looking little firearm, however cheaply made as compared to my American Derringer in .38spl. Plus my American is double action only, and fairly accurate out to 10 yards.

The Cobras cost me the total sum of $274.00 out the door brand new in the box. Both shoot very poorly and the .22WMR key holes at 7+ yards. I called the factory which is in Salt Lake City Utah, and spoke to a factory rep. He told me that the rifling in both guns is very shallow, (which I noticed) and the barrel being so short as to distort the projectory. Other than that they fire each and every time I've fired them. The .22WMR is extremely noisy with a sharp report.

Neither would I consider carrying CCW or for home defense, but like was all ready said, they are neat little arms and a hoot to shoot. Further I got the satin nickel finish on both, on the .22WMR I got the rosewood grips, on the .22LR I got the white simulated pearl.

No lov for the Hi-Standered 22 mag?

Thoughts please, quality? Has anyone here shoot one in 22 mag? Usefull range in feet?

New Guy, We've got one at our LGS, slightly used in .22WMR in double action only. I believe the owner is asking right around $300.00 for it. It is SS.
