Any opinions out there about Wolf Gold ammo in .357? In particular, 158 grain, SJHP. Their specs say 1,607 fps. Isn't that considered "Hot"? Is this too much for a SP101?

A 125 at 1607, or a 158 at 1607? A 158 at 1607 would definitely be hot. Heck, a 125 at 1607 is no slouch.

Wolf Gold 357mag I am pretty sure is made by PRVI in Serbia. They also sell the same ammo at Academy under the store brand name Monarch. I have shot quite a bit of the 158gr sjhp Monarch stuff. It goes off with authority and prints well from my 6" GP100.

Now with my SP101 it gets uncomfortable, but that little tank handles them just fine.

I've also used the brass for reloading. Good stuff that doesn't break the bank.

The fps numbers they claim are meaningless without knowing what they used to get them with. I'm talking the length of the test barrel here. Bet it was longer than my 6" Ruger.

I bought four boxes at a gun show at a good price. I don't have a GP100, but I do have two SP101s. The Wolfs are a very stout round in the SP101s. Two cylinders and my hand was actually hurting. My wedding band, on my support hand, was killing the little finger on my right hand. Thats when the fps got my attention. While the SP101 may not have an issue with this round, my hand certainly does.
