Does anyone remember Cabela's marketing a "less than lethal" package a few months ago? I just caught it out of the corner of my eye and didn't give it much thought at the time.

They were selling a Bersa .380, a holster and a can of pepper spray and calling it their "less than lethal package". Please correct me if I'm wrong on the details, I'm going off of memory here.

That kind of marketing seems troubling somehow. I know statistically, most people survive handgun inflicted wounds, but calling a .380 pistol less than lethal is kind of out of touch with reality, IMO. Like trying to sell it as though it were a taser, or something. I believe the .380 was standard issue for the Italian army in WW2, and even if it wasn't as effective as other rounds, I don't believe "less than lethal" would be an accurate assessment.

Am I missing something here? Were they selling rubber bullets with it or something?

(PS- sorry if this topic's already been covered. I searched the forum and din't find anything on it.)

I must be missing something too. 8)
I would not call a Bersa .380 less than lethal.

So if you're missing something here, you're in good company.

Can't find many non-forum references to this item/product, but did find this picture.

Weird

I bet they're referring to the fact that they've included pepper spray in the "package".

I seriously doubt they'd claim that a .380 pistol is "less than lethal", imagine all the legal trouble that could end up causing!

Well, I haven't seen that outfit advertised at Cabela's since....just that one time. They may have wised up.

As someone on another forum pointed out, just think if someone shot an irrate neighbor or wife, then told the judge "But Cabela's said it was 'less than lethal'...."

I guess Cabela's felt like they had a shortage of lawsuits at the time.

Not real smart.

Maybe they meant that the pepper spray and bersa were "less than lethal" by themselves, and could only be lethal with someone operating them :)

:)

There's a joke here somewhere about a Bersa Thunder statistically being 'less than lethal', but I'll let it pass...
It's likely why they include the pepper spray, to up the odds a bit.

:) LOL

Actually, I wouldn't mind owning one of those Bersas. I hear good things about them.

Same here, actually. Seem to have quite a devoted following from all owners I've spoken with.

The inclusion of a chemical deterrent would by my guess for the package name as well.
Questionable marketing strategy, I would think.

As for Bersa, they have a stellar track record. Just as Glock, Sig, Colt and the like, lemons exist. They do, however, represent an excellent value.
I have been tickled pink by the performance my relatively inexpensive UC9 Pro.

A Bersa IS fairly non-lethal... I just can't throw one with any decent accuracy in a time of need. :D

The bullets they shoot on the other hand...
