Purchased in May of 2007, I'm looking for opinions on what should i post
as an asking price for the following:

Lee pro 1K press with shellplate carrier large pistol
3 turrets
2 case coallators and feeders 45acp and 9mm
Shellplate carrier small pistol
38 cal. shellplate

with the exception of the dies its set up to load 45acp, 9mm and 38 spl.

the dies i have were transfered to an XL650

1. Add up the current "honest retail" of the components--i.e., what they currently sell for at Midway, for example.

2. Divide that sum in two.

3. Factor in wear and tear as needed: Does this machine have 5K or 50K of loads run through it? Be honest about it: It may be YOUR favorite (or non-favorite) tool, but ignore the sentimental factors.

4. Add on 10% for bargaining.

5. You now have your asking price. Advertise it honestly, and be prepared to bargain, depending on your venue. At a gun show, with ten others being sold, the haggle will be worse; as an ad in the local paper, it should be easier to stand firm.

COMMENT: With the round count included, you can probably confidently ask 60% of the sum above--promote the setup being properly done, and make sure the carrier assembly is clean.

I would guess about 1500 or less rounds thru it.

Which would be maybe 5 hours of full tilt use. More if you have to fiddle.

By way of comparison, I just picked one up, unused in box (and set up for a cartridge I don't use <shrug>), for $89. Brand new, they're $132 from Midway.

Interested in splitting any of that out?

I'd start at 70-80% of new retail, in the last 2 months I've sold 3 sets of used dies for 10% over the retail price for new dies, and a used Lee Classic Turret Press for 90% retail.

Just make sure you write a good description, accurately portray the press, charge a fair shipping price, create the impression they are getting a great deal. When selling the turret press I threw in my least favorite current reloading book. Auction sites bring out the "you can't out bid me" mentality in both men and women and I've often seen used items go for over new retail price.

You know I frequently see these things go on ebay for what you would pay for a new one. Not too good for the buyer but great for the seller. I think I would put it all up in one auction with a reserv of what a new pro1000 goes for you will likely go 20 to 30 over that. Like I said happens all the time.

price

I am going to put it up for $170 plus the actual cost of shipping. Buyer
chooses the carrier.

I would of course accept any reasonable offer.

Thanks for the help on this i appreciate it.

A brand new one with one set of dies is around $130. Add 2 turrets for $8 or so each...then 2 collators for around $10 each. Even that doesn't add up to $170 brand new....and that includes a set of dies. Did you mean $70 instead of $170?

A family member of mine bought one used but all set up and ready to go for 9mm and in pretty good shape (no collator or extra turrets and it was missing feed tube) for $40. That was from a retail store too. What a bargain! I think you can get more than that of course (probably double) but $170 is way too high.

no i didn't mean $70

atomd.. i meant $170.00 you did not include

2 extra turrets 8 each (total of 3) $16
1 shellpalete carreir with 9mm shellplate, and primer flip tray . $36
1 38 cal shellplate $13
auto disk upadate kit $13
2 powder thru dies gift.
Total $78

I'm using my Midway invoices as a base for this.

sounds like your family member go a great deal.

I will entertain any reasonable offers. Hope this helps to answer
some of your questions.

When you buy a new Pro-1000 from Midway or anywhere else, it comes setup for one caliber already, which means, shellplate, turret plate, dies, primer flip tray & feed parts, case feeder & tubes for the size, and it is ready to roll right out of the box just add components.
Problem is, you are not including any DIES with the press. That's A BIG negative since a new press comes with at least a set of dies to match the installed carrier.
Case collators are ten bucks everywhere and you don't need two.

Include everything listed in the OP and consider yourself lucky to get $120 plus S&H out of it. Not including the extras, if you get $100 shipped, you found a sucker.

$170?

:what: You can get a 1000 direct from Lee, ready to go w/dies for $100 shipped. I have 2 and haven't spent $170 for both together. +1 what Evan said. If you get $170, I'll have to consider selling mine and replacing them with new units...

almost correct

philbo, are you referring to the reconditioned 1000's for $96 plus shipping
then you correct.

The Price for a new 1000 is $215.98 plus shipping.

I doubt that LEE would ever undersell their distributors.

I bought the Lee Pro 1000 kit for .41 Magnum for 132$ new from Midway.

It comes with Dies.

A set of dies is like 24$.

I think $100 is good.

If you set the dies ready to go, then it is a great deal.

That's what I'm referring to. Since your selling a used unit w/1500 rds thru it, I figured it was better to compare it to a reconditioned unit than new as a price point.

Maybe Lee's suggested retail is that. Street price, as noted many times in this thread, is considerably less.

Got mine for free setup for .357. Spent $100 on all the dodahs listed and a caliber conversion to .45ACP. I guess I'm lucky to know I can recoup ALL my money when I do upgrade. :D

Why sell?

Why are you selling it . Maybe you should hang on to it incase you need it in the future. I have 5 loaders. RCBS, Dillons Sorry no lee's. May be I have too many.
The $$$ sound kind of high. But it's your deal. Guess I'd keep it and maybe buy another gun. Good Luck what ever you decide.

Thanks all

Thanks for all the info, from the replies above $170 seems high.

But you gotta ask and get the info.

In the end if no one wants it i can always leave it set up for one
caliber.

Thanks again,
wood

woodfiler-

i've own several lee pro1k's. 2 i picked up in trade/used. In my experience, they have more trade value than cash value.

that being said- the price on them has gone up a good bit in the last couple years. I got into reloading about 3 years ago and paid around 110 from midway for one set up in 9mm. they have gone up over 20 dollars since then! a pretty significant increase, 18% in a 2.5-3 year span!

I would think the used value has gone up since then as well. Ebay is probably your best bet. people have a tendency to keep clicking and not get outbid by a dollar or so, and the price on things can really go up.

also sometimes breaking up a package works too.
