I need to lay in a couple three cases (more?) of 12 gauge target loads for some simple, hand thrown fun coming up in a month or so.

Walmart, Cabella's and sometimes Bass Pro have decent enough local sales here in Phoenix but I got to thinking about ordering some on line as well.

When I check a couple quick returns on searches - if the price is good, the shipping is high.

What's the general thought on this? Are local retail sale prices plus tax going to usually balance out ordering and shipping without tax?

I see from time to time, folks posting about amazing internet ammo deals and seems I sometimes here of free shipping but I'll be derned if I can find free or even low.

Todd.

Anywhere between 60-65 a case is a good, price. Sometimes I get it inline. Sometimes locally. Taxes and shipping often offset unless online has a low, no shipping deal.

Thanks Sheep - I'm kinda getting that there may not be any screaming deals to wipe out the local + taxes option.

Go to WalMart and buy some Winchester 1 1/8 1200fps shells. There are 4 boxes in a carton and sell for $21.74. They pattern well and are clean shells. I have shot over 300 of these and have no complaints.

Somebody shared a screaming deal on Federal Top Gun loads a few weeks ago. It was $2.99 a box from Palmetto State. Add 10 boxes, $29.90. Go to check out, $28 shipping. Walmart has it for $5.67 a box. 10 boxes plus tax, it works out to $2 more.

That or Federal. Not worth buying on-line.

Cabela's usually has free shipping on orders over $99. I got in on a mistake they made on pricing and got 4 flats for a great rate plus free shipping.

Academy usually has free shipping over $25 (IIRC), and good prices as well. You can usually get some RIO or similar for $55/flat

Thanks for that. I'll look into it. I never even considered "ordering" from them rather than just driving over.

"...got to thinking about ordering some..." Do it through your local gun shop. The shipping and Hazmat fees will negate any cost savings found on-line. Be prepared to pay up front and do not hesitate to negotiate the price.
