Oregon Looks To Enact Guns Laws So Strict That The Only Firearms You Could Own Would Be The Ones Davy Crockett Used

I hope this is the right section......

Now, a proposed law in the legislature could make Oregon’s gun regulations one of the strictest in the country. Not only does it include a permit to purchase, but a limit of how much ammunition you can buy a month, plus a ban on magazines that hold more than five rounds.

The bill proposed to appear in the Legislature this year would require Oregonians to obtain a permit before buying a gun, limit the amount of ammunition a person could buy, outlaw magazines with a capacity of more than five rounds, and create gun locking and storage requirements.

5 shot revolvers for everybody! Smith and Wesson will sell thousands of J frame "oregon" models.
(I'm buying S&W stock as we speak)

This is serious stuff. We have our own set of crazy gun law problems her in WA but this is over the top.

Imagine you can only buy 20 rounds of ammo per month, and you have to go though a background check to get those 20 rounds.

I believe this was suggested by an anti-gun Oregon legislator after conferring with a group of high school students. I suspect they were urban residents because country kids would know better.

Oregon gun owners should write their state representatives with the following:
  • It is recommended that gun owners take at least one class annually from a reputable trainer.
  • Massad Ayoob's MAG40 is an example. It teaches both legal obligations and shooting skills.
  • MAG40 students are told to bring at least 500 rounds to the class. (I shot that much in the preceding month just to get ready.)
  • The absurdity of taking more than two years to accumulate enough ammunition for one year's training should be obvious.
  • A 20 round limit does not handicap criminals since they only shoot when their victims resist.

I'd be very cautious in offering advice to lawmakers that contains "recommendations." If they see it as a good compromise, it will become law.

I do not support mandatory firearms training laws, especially annual training.

So it has started! Illinois new Governor also just signed new laws today. Fear is that it will push many small shops to close down.
