oregon trail lasercast

does anyone have any load data for oregon trail 240grain lasercast bullets for a 44 mag? how fast can i push these before i start to see some leading? i'd really like a cast lead bullet that i can run from 1000fps up to 1400 or 1500. any help would be great

My 1 st editon load manual from LaserCast has several loads for that bullet.
what powder do you have on hand or available?
ie:10.8 grains unique=1302fps. max load is 11.7grains @ 1349fps
HS-6..10.8graiins=1044fps,the max is 12.0 @ 1170 fps
..yes,these two powders both have the same start loads.ie:10.8

as to leading,I'd be inclined to use gas checked bullets at those velocities.However,leading can vary from gun barrel to gun barrel it seems.
..the manual does not show thes loads as being used with gc bullets tho.

I load 240 Lasercast bullets in my two S&W's, a Ruker SBH, and a Ruger Carbine and have found that if I push these bullets much past 1100 fps in any of these guns that I am going to get some leading. The quantity of leading depends on the individual gun. You may be able to get 1200-11300 fps with a very hard lead gas checked bullet but why? At that point it's simplerr to use a jacket bullet to achieve your velocities. JMHO.

I used 2400 with that Oregon Trail Laser-Cast .431" bullet in my Marlin with Microgroove barrel. I believe I pushed them to just over 1300 fps. I'll have to look back in my notes. It was the most accurate cast bullet I've used in that rifle. I didn't have any leading issues and it fed without a hitch too.

Any load for a 240 grain lead bullet in 44 mag would be appropriate to use with the laser casts. I've used 23.7 grains of H110 powder. I cannot comment on leading or actual speed, but it's certainly enough to satisfy my desire for something hot. Shooting gloves are desirable, helmet optional

I've just checked Hodgdon's website and while 23.7 is below max, you might very well start where they do at 23 grains. 24 is max and these are with a jacketed HP. They don't list anything for H110 and a lead 240 grain bullet although I've shot plenty without an issue. I have data from my Midway manual that lists charges as high as 25 grains with a Hornady LSWC and I've done some LSWCs at 24.8 grains. These will definitely blow your hair back...

I shoot both 180g & 240g Laser cast in my Marlin with good accuracy. I use only light AA#2 loads as these are my paper and can loads. They are both accurate and cheap to shoot. For anything heavier I use Hornady bullets and a full load of H110. A full load of H110 under a 180G Hornady XTP will really make the 1894 jump. As 1894 barrels tend to be a little ‘large’ the Laser cast at .431 and the Hornady at .430 shoot better than ‘factory size’ loads. I haven’t seen any noticeable leading with the Laser Cast.
