I have a Colt Model 1851 Navy in .36 cal and would like to know how do find out any information on it. It is all Original and numbers matching except the cylinder. The numbers on the pistol are 17389 and the cylinder is numbered 71410.

Per Wilson, the gun was made in 1852, the cylinder (or the gun on which it was originally installed) was made in 1857. The mismatch hurts the collector value. Any evaluation would require at least a couple of good pictures, as condition is all important.

Needless to say, with all the repros and replicas and resumed production of the 1851 Navy, the buyer must be very careful.

I will try to get pics up. Yes it is in good enough shape to shoot. And I know it is original as it has been in our family for over 50 years. I'm also not to worried about value as I have no intention of selling it.
