Original Enfield Musketoon value

I found out today that I may be in line to inherit a VERY nice, original Enfield Musketoon.

Owned by my Uncle and in his family since the Civil War ended, this piece is in near mint condition. I Know it hasn't been shot for over 75 years, quite possibly
not fired since being in service.

If memory serves, the only alteration to the rifle is a Brass plaque on the stock bearing the service members name and regiment.

I plan on making a shadow box for it and displaying it in my secure "man's room", keep it in the family for another 140 years

Anybody out there have a guess at it's value?

According to the Blue Book, it could be $1700 or less, depending on condition. I am not an expert and really do not know how to identify and evaluate these arms. I am simply relaying numbers.

I watched an original .69 smooth bore with a Tower lock dated 1862 sell at an estate sale two weeks ago. It didn't appear to be an Enfield but was in excellent very shootable condition. It brought $1,050.00. I thought that was high at the time but what do I know?

Have the oldest family write down the history of the rifle. That helps establish the provenance and increases its value. Since you've got the name and regiment of the soldier, you should get his service record and if he applied for one, his pension record. My last trip to the National Archives I did just that for a Henry Rifle. I even found a living descendant and tried to get a photo of the soldier (no dice).
