I picked up a Ortgies in 25 acp and having problems with it. I bought the gun the grip safety was broken and had a nail in place of the fring pin guide. I got the replacement parts along with the gun.

No problem changing the grip safety but had problems with the pin with it being rounded over not staying in the ident for assembly. The firing pin spring also seemed messed up, so i got new parts and put back togther.

Here's where the problems start. The gun will not chamber a round with the grip safety pushed in. When you push the butten and the safety pops out the gun will chamber a round.

When i test fired it, I chambered a round with the safety poped out and then pushed it back in to fire.

After the round fired, the slide would not go far enough back with the safety now off to picked up a round.

I am not familer with the safety design, but i think i read the safety will lock foward when pushed.

Well after some more work on it last night, It seemed to me the the firing pin guide is not letting the slide back far enough with the frip safety off to pick up a round. I took one of the guides and ground it down enough so the slide would pick a round up. Will try and test fire today.

Could someone who has a 25 ortgies tell me how long there guide is?

Anyone have any ideas on what the problem may be? Something just dosn;t seem right with me having to grind the pin down.

I don't own an Ortgies but I have worked on a couple.
I can tell you they were inexpensive German designs and they didn't follow Eli Whitneys plan on interchangeable parts so fitting replacements is pretty much a gimme.

You may check the grip safety to see if burrs have developed that could be impeding free movement.

Grip safety is new. I have problems with the slide no going back far enough to pick a round. I kinda solved this by shorting the firing pin guide. Still the last 1/8 inch pull back is rough, may try and smooth the grip safety spur.

I test fired it today, with the shorted guide. Did not pick up the secound round. Racked the slide and next 4 fired normally, last round did feed all the way or the case before the last round stove piped.

So i am making progress.

If you have any other suggestion on what to try let me know.

Sounds like progress is being made and the magazine feed lips may be part of the issue.

I hadn't thought about the Magazine feed lips. What i check for there?

Magazine seem ok. Did notice that on the back of the firing pin, where the spring goes in, is rough with some burrs. Thinking these may be a problem. So i am going to smooth them out and see it helps.
