other kinds of ar15 ammo

what kinds of ammunition other then the .223 can i use in an ar15 specificly an m4 preban type ar15. im looking to get that kind of ar15 but what other caliber bullets can i use in that kind of ar15 i want somethin strong enough to knock down a deer with no problem can someone help me out with this question thanks

you can only shoot what your chamber is cut for.

if your ar is for 5.56, then you can shoot 5.56 or 223 rem, or you can buy a new upper/barrel chambered for whatever caliber you want.

i surely don't advocate using a 223 on deer, even if it is legal in your state... but, you need to start w/ your state laws. 1- is 223 legal for big game? 2- is an autoloader legal? 3- is there a limit to how many rounds can fit into the mag?

And, when I lived in NY many moons (and I do mean many) ago, the answers were the same in NY (but only in those areas where you could use rifles at all, of course).

However, check with the DEC for current regulations...
