My dad was in an accident in May and his good buddy helped out a great deal. My dad would like to show his appreciation by buying the guy a really nice O/U shotgun.

Right now I am looking to see whats available for a 1000.00 dollars. He likes browning too, but I dont think he is going to be picky about a gift.

Ruger Red Labels can be found around that level.
I had a store here quote me $1,100 for a Red Label 28 gauge, shipping was extra.

A beretta 686 Essential or a Whitewing should be in that range also, as would a Citori Hunter. The Red Label is a darn fine shotgun, as good as any in the price range. Don't pay over $950 out the door for a red label though........

If the guy is a Browning guy go with the Citori......

I paid $1075 for my Red Label and don't feel like I got took. Its a mighty fine gun with pretty wood and after a little over a year hasn't failed me yet!

I would have to go with the Browning Citori myslef. I have one and love it. They do have different models of the citori, such as the XS sporting, skeet or the XT trap, 525, privelage, lightning and so on....you can get the lightning model for around 1349.00. Thats the price for the field model. Non-ventilated Barrels, non ported and single front bead. They do have the lightning sporting model for about 1600, they did have a skeet model, but it was discontinued.

Weatherby Orion

I don't know how you feel about used but I just picked up a Weatherby Orion Class II in perfect conditon for $950 ($1662 list). Better than any of the guns mentioned IMHO.

I prefer the Ruger Red Label over the Browning Citori. They just seem to fit me better. Mine has never failed. For $1000.00 it can't be beat, IMHO.
