Out-of-spec sizing die?

A couple of days ago I was reloading for my .357 Magnum and decided to use my single-stage press for which I have a set of Redding titanium carbide dies. I sized, primed, belled and charged them. When I began seating the bullets, though, I noticed on the third one that I could **very** easily push them in about 3/4 of the length of the bullet (they practically fell that distance) and they would stop there. Puzzling.

So, I then resized the cases on my LnL AP with my Hornady sizing die and the bullets no longer did so.

Yesterday I purchased a Dillon .357 Magnum case gauge (they didn't have L.E. Wilson in stock) and checked the resized cases; the Redding still passed the gauge but the Hornady-resized one was certainly a bit smaller in diameter. The bullets mike out to .357 as well-

I don't think the bullets should fall down in the case or otherwise self-seat at whatever depth they feel like, it should require a press to do so. Because of this, I think my Redding sizing die is out-of-spec but by a very small amount.

Am I missing anything?

If the die is in fact out-of-spec I'm sure Redding will make good on it, no issue there for me. I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking something obvious. I've only been at this for a little over a year now and still learning (but I'll never stop the learning part!!!). Thank you in advance for any and all advice.

Two issues come to mind....
• Some brass (Remington comes to mind) has a thinner wall
• Some dies use different internal sizing expanders

You might want to get out your calipers and start making some comparisons between different case brass and the diameter of the 2 expanders right in front of the belling wedge. You'll find something off.

So the bullets just fall in without the need for an expander die?

Correct. They would either fall in or just very easily be pushed in. Only to a depth of about 3/4 of the bullet though.

I'm gonna try the setup once again to make sure I have my facts straight. I'm pretty sure though that the Redding-sized cases would take a bullet w/o expanding/belling-

Well, I just tried the sizing operation- I did have my facts correct, the bullets will go in without expanding/belling...

At first I thought, "Wow! These titanium carbide dies are SO much easier to resize the cases!"... But now I'm wondering-
