I'm an Alaskan resident and just recently purchased a gun which is prohibited in the state where I go to college ( CA). Anyways, my parents arn't too keen about me leaving it in the home for some reason, so I was thinking about getting a trigger lock or something along those lines and leaving it at a good friends house. What are my options here?

Thanks

I'd lock the trigger and put it in a good high quality lockable aluminum case. Maybe take it apart and leave half at home and half with your parents?

I know that some gun ranges here (Cali) and elsewhere offer lockers that you can store your handgun and related gear in, don't know about pricing, but perhaps that's an option?

I'd be leery about storing it at a friends house unless I was able to completely 100% disable it.

On rereading that I guess it really depends on how good a friends they are.

Where in Cali and are you talking about a pistol not on the approved list or an assault rifle or what.

It's an SAR1 so.....

I might just dissasemple it and see if that's acceptable to my parents

A SAR... not quite the kind of thing you can hide in a shoebox in your closet. :-(

Can you give us a hint why your parents don't like the idea of it being stored in their house?

When I was in the Navy I left stuff with my folks, but I bought a couple gun cabinets and bolted them into a closet so that I knew where they'd be when I came home. Worth considering, your folks obviously need to agree.

Remove the dust cover, pop out the bolt carrier and run a BIG Master Lock through the magazine well. If someone steals it, they'd have a heck of a time trying to remove the lock without damaging the stamped reciever.

or you could sell it and buy something you can own and shoot in CA. Naahh, that's no fun. What do you shoot in CA?
