I recieved my grandfather's very old, very poor condition shotgun recently. I was just going to leave it as a wall hanger, but then I've been thinking that it might make a nice winter project. It's a double barrel, but one barrel is very rusted internally and the stock is cracked.

Looking on the internet, I can see that it was sold under many names, but does anyone know how difficult it would be to try to put a new set of barrels on it?

Thanks for any help. I realize that it wouldn't be cost effective, but as long as it doesn't cost a fortune, I am still interested in doing it, esp if I can do the work myself.

First, the gun is old and very likely worn out, and even new barrels would not fix that.

Second, getting and installing new barrels on a double is not a DIY project. There are only a few places in the country that do it and they would charge at least $1200-1500, many times what the gun is worth.

Also, I doubt that anyone would agree to do the job. The headaches of replacing the barrels then trying to get the rest of the gun working would simply be too much and they couldn't guarantee anything, even if you gave them a pile of cash in advance.

Your first instinct was right; it is a wall hanger, an old timer that deserves retirement.
